Have a 2003 50th Anniversary with 29K miles. The services ABS and Active Handling warning lights coming on intermittently, comes and goes. Took it to good shop and they hooked a state-of-the-art wireless analyzer to the car and it spit out C1214 which is an Electronic Brake Control Module intermittent failure. This was not a Corvette shop, but they seemed very knowledgeable about what was wrong and how to replace it. The tester further indicated the relay inside the EBCM is the problem, but the relay cannot be repaired - have to get a complete EBCM which costs about $1,100 to replace at dealership. Another Corvette owner told me it could bad grounding somewhere in the EBCM. If any of you have any ideas/recommendations in this forum, I would appreciate it. Seems like low mileage for something like the EBCM to go bad, but the car is 10 years, albeit with low mileage.

what yr vette, 2001 and up you can have it fixed for 150.00 at absfixxer.com takes about 3-5 days to get done

Thanks Pops, but not being a mechanic, I would have to take it to a shop to have the EBCM removed professionally. It does not look a simple thing to remove.

A newbie posts a thread about possibly having to spend $1100- for a repair. Within 40 minutes, he is told how exactly how to fix for $150! - saving him $950!!! AND ...he learns something about his car too!

8VETTE7: By pulling codes myself using the video guide above in this thread (thank you all for that), are you saying I could have identified the C1214 failure code by following these steps? And, when I watched the video, the guy was erasing the codes that came up. Aren't those codes alerting the driver that these error codes need to be addressed/fixed?

That's exactly what he's saying!
DTC retrieval via the DIC is easy and useful. Once you are in "manual" mode you can also erase codes from each module. Yes, the codes hint to an issue that should be addressed....but, if you don't correct said issue, the code will come back and "remind" you...

Now that you know all of this, you should never have to pay for diagnostics. Any time you have an issue, pull the codes and post them with a description of the problem and the forum members will be glad to help you out.

There are 2 types of codes you will get, An "H" and a "C" code, H meaning that it was an error and is no longer, A "C" means current and needs attention.

I will run the codes using the video guide in here - thanks for that. One more thing, I ran into a guy at Chevrolet dealership who is also a C5 owner, and he said it could be a grounding problem. Would that show up in a code?

It is possible, IMO. Check G108 and make sure the nut is tight. Also look for corrosion. Here is a link to Bill Curlee's post on checking the chassis grounds...might be helpful to you:

G108 is underneath the battery tray on the frame rail. Be careful when disconnecting this for inspection. The stud is prone to snapping if the threads are corroded!

Also, you may want to consider purchasing the factory service manuals, if you don't already have them. Check the "Parts for Sale" section of this forum and/or "that auction site" and you should be able to find them at a reasonable price.

To he OP, life is never quite as sweet as the first time you fix a problem in your Vette that a mechanic tells you would cost $1000 for him to do.

You my friend are so right when I bought mine I said no one will ever touch this car but the Dealer. I then found this site I now have removed the entire drive trian, motor, rear facia, front end and almost all the interior myself saving so much money for MODS that I feel stupid for spending 1800.00 to get my clutch done the first time. Hell I have put 6 clutches in now 2 of my own and 4 for friends.

Does this code make your service abs /active handling lite come on dash and when i try to erase code like in video it come right back and says 1 code it will not erase like the others did thanks for any help and input


Guy I bought car from said dealer said c1287 steering wheel position sensor but when I did the manual only code was above

You need to understand that when this code appears you do not have ABS or active handling until the car is shut of then restarted. If it appears immediately again, you are driving with out these functions. Don't kid yourself into thinking you're a better judge of the car's capability than the computers in them. Many a C-5 has been layed to rest (junked) because of ego and ignorance. Wet streets, bald tires and lack of real skill behind the wheel kills more Vettes than high mileage

I agree that why I want it fixed but i guess my real ? Is do I have a c1214 code or a c1287 when I go thru dic no other codes come up so does the c1214 make the dash lite stay on or does the 1287 only cause that to happen.dont wont to go buy a steering wheel poisition sensor and find out it not the problem what would you do

C1214 is the code you are displaying. Yes that is the one that turns on the service ABS/active handling icon.
I'd not worry about the other code unless its shows up in the future.
Unless you own a 2000 Vette (or older) it is an easy fix of the EBCM.

Keep in mind that most dealers must prove themselves when it comes to "Corvette knowledge.

Yes car is a 2002 took car out for a ride and checked code again only code that showed up again was c1214 so I will do the fix as decribed in this post and see what happens thanks for help

Phanni - I finally ran the manual test, and found code C1214 and I reset it, and it came back immediately before I even drove the car. Does that sound like this is a code that needs attention?

Yes, you need to address the problem. It is 99% likely it is a bad solder connection in the EBCM, and it can be fixed on the cheap. Where are you located? There are members that would be happy to help you diagnose and repair the problem. Please don't pay$1100 for a part you can get for 1/10th that.
