I just ran to get my oil and filter for the first oil change. In the lot was a Chrysler 200 with stripes on the front fender...

You'll see the hashmarks on a lot of Dodge products these days. Still looks much better on the Vette.

I thought those hash marks meant eight years of over seas duty !

I'm keeping mine. I think they look better on a C5 than any other car. I like what they represent.
FYI, fender hash marks were not just a GS thing. In the old days of racing, they were used on a multitude of race cars. Sometimes used to tell the cars apart and other times to tell the driver what side the steering wheel was on (24 hrs of Lemans, running start).
So, I don't mind people paying hommage to classic race cars by having them on their ride. True racing enthusiasts know what they mean.

They are not your typical GS Stripe! I have always liked the ones on your car. They were actually what pushed me towards getting them in the first place. IMO however, they look better on yours than mine.

No need to go thru the council!! They look wayyyyyyy too good on your car!

For me, it's no biggie that there was never a C5 Grand Sport. I had some nice black vinyl stripes lying around but thought they would look too dull alone against my MSG paint and then one day I got the bug to match up the stripes with red and white pinstripes to match up with the color of the C5 logos. What's great as you know, it's completely reversable. Some day I might get a bug to remove them.
What I find funny is how upset some of the purists get over these types of mods. I attended a show a few weeks ago and didn't even enter my car to be judged when another owner (with really dirty floor mats BTW ) approached me and sarcastically commented that he didn't know that GM made a C5 Grand Sport. I replied, neither did I. He then asked why I had Grand Sport stripes on my convertible. I replied, they are fender stripes and because I like them...

I didn't do it!
My car came with them from the prior owner. Pretty sure they are painted on. I know after a I had the TS bumper installed the shop shot clear over them so they are going to stay. The council can punish me how ever they feel!
