launching my coupe
I have not tried launching my 2000 coupe yet. A couple of friends want to take it to the track to see what it will do. It is a 6spd at roughly 485hp. I do not want to look stupid on the 1st attempt. Does anyone have a starting point for RPM's.

If you are running street tires at the track, don't even bother trying to get a decent launch. 485 hp would (IMHO) need some decent drag radial/slick in order to even think about hooking... you might want to ask over in the performance section and ranger has a lot of good stuff but I would hate to see something happen with that much power on a street tire.
I drive an auto so I do not want to comment about the technique launching a stick.
Please don't worry about looking stupid - just be safe and most importantly; have fun while you are there...

Here were some tips posted by another forum vendor a few years ago. They might give you some help at the track.

If you're running 485, you don't want a great hole-shot, which would require slicks. You'll only get a few great hole-shots on the stock rear-end. As others have said, read-up, then baby that clutch & rear end.

Then the plan is to spray some NOS!
We're got it pretty consistent! The best that day was a 10.22 - below are a few slips of 10.28, 10.27, 10.26, 10.25 and 10.24

Thanks to all who replied to my thread. The information was valuable and I am going to have to think seriously about whether I want to abuse my baby. I love it just the way it is. Being a relative newbie to the Corvette world is an enlightening experience. This coupe is most fun I have had since my 66 Chev. Impala (300hp,4sp)
