Default 01Z06, 60k miles, $20k...hold out or good buy?

Just about to bite the bullet on a 2001 Corvette Z06. For $20,000 wondering if I should do it or hold out for 2002 later or just lower mileage.

The intended use for this is for a weekend car and HPDE track events 2 to 3 times per year at most.

Silver with black interior. Looked at in person and looks in near perfect condition.

I'd like any opinions.

Thanks guys!!!!

The 02 and up had improvements to be sure, but the 01s were the return of the Z06.

All C5s seem to be going up in price, not sure why. Only explanation is supply verses demand.

I would say it all depends upon condition and your budget.

It's not out of the ballpark. I think 19k would be good given that it is in such nice condition. I would worry less about lower mileage or 2001 vs 2002-4 than I would about how much the car is what you want? Is silver/black what you want? If not, find the car that you want. If so, I'd say negotiate the best deal you can and pull the trigger and not worry about those that may say you paid too much or too little. You will spend a lot more in maintenance and mods than the difference in a great deal or a so-so deal.

Good starting point. I paid a bit more for my '03 Z with a bit fewer miles. I am very happy with my car and my deal, even though there are some here that think you can buy nice Zs for $15K. If it is the car you want, color, mods, options, etc. then make the deal and grin on down the road.

I know what you mean. But you can't buy a "nice" one for 15k. You probably can buy one that isn't so nice for that price.

I recently picked up my 2001 Quicksilver Z06 with Mod Red interior for $14K

I had a few flaws in it that I've fixed, but it wasn't much.

I recently replaced the seats with new ones due to some heavy wear and I had the ABS module rebuilt. Other than that, the car is damn near perfect. A/C is still kickin ice cold, car doesn't rattle, great get up and go... It'll burn through 3 gears... I upgraded all lights to LEDs and the car even came with the B&B Bullets on it already.

So there are deals out there. Best thing I can say is look for the elderly getting rid of them. I bought mine from a guy in his mid to late 60's. Old retired Dallas Cowboy player. He had back surgery and had to sell. He sold it for KBB valued it at minus the cost of the items that needed replacing.

Not a good deal IMO...when I bought a very nicely modded 2003 Z with 460rwhp (all motor) with 29k miles for $22k.

I think you got a good deal - sounds very nice! I think high teens is fair for the car in question here. The big question is how close it is to the exact car the OP is looking for.

Hold out, Thats way to much for a 01 Z! Its should be priced around $16-$17K tops! I bought my 02 Z bone stock w/38k out of FL 2yrs ago in mint condition for $18500, Bought an 03 Z last year with 100K in the same shape just needed rear tire's for $14K! If you look around, they are all over for reasonable price's. Good luck with your find,,,

depends. every now and again they roll through manheim and people are asleep at the bidding

sometimes something simple like needing a water pump or brakes devalue these cars as everything is quoted at GM repair prices. i picked up a 2002 z06 that was probably worth 17-18k for 15k for just this reason. climate control lights were out. oil pressure sensor was out, water pump was leaking and it needed brakes.

babied, elderly owned car that was never tracked, modded or driven hard. guy i bought it from was scared of the gas pedal.

guy was a retired exotic car dealer, told me the whole 9 and said he figured it would be easier to sell a little under MMR with those issues than paying to have it all fixed and going for retail

c5 z06's have been pretty consistent between nada clean trade and retail. if they need a grand in repairs, have a rough interior or paint that clean trade number is common. needs nothing cars in good overall condition with records still fetch retail from what i've seen

Way too expensive for a 13yr old car, plus a lot of 01's burn oil, not all but a lot do..Keep looking..

Damn some of you got some great deals. I wonder if it's just a bad time of year. Perhaps if I wait until the fall when the C7's start getting delivered more C5's will popup and I can get a better deal. Only thing is I will miss the entire summer without it! A good deal in important for me money wise however so I am going to pass on this one.

Thanks for all your opinions!!

and if the car is clean you could flip it for 3-4k on ebay or manheim

below MMR deals aren't exactly realistic for most people.

just depends on the deal. the nice, taken care of stuff is unlikely to go much lower simply because there is no other car in the teens that can compete with the c5z. only the evolution 8/9 has a hope in hell and it requires mods to be on equal footing. plus, it looks like a commuter

be careful of abused, neglected cars. there are MANY for sale and i sure wouldn't want one unless i got a screaming deal

15 is the low mark for a c5z and 30 is the high mark. there are typically nice cars in the 18-23k range. if possible i would get an 02-04 for a variety of reasons

if you get really lucky you might find a well maintained 100-140k mile car in the 14-16k range that's 1-2 owner and just did a lot of commuting. for a low dollar buy this would be ideal

Darn the prices seem to vary greatly, depending in what part of the country you are in. In Atlanta, that Z would be priced about right.
