C5 mufflers for the budget minded
I have a 2002 bone stock corvette. I want to improve the sound. I'm fine with the stock performance. I checked with the local muffler shop and they want $800 for a pair of Flowmaster 525802 80 Series Cross-Flow Mufflers installed. Any way to get that sound without the $800 price tag. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I just put a set of z06 Ti's along with a borla y pipe on my stock c5 coupe. If you're looking for the Flowmaster sound/tone, this ain't gonna do it. It sounds more like the European exhaust note, not the louder note it sounds like you're after.
My personal preference is the quieter Euro sound that I now have, but to each their own.
Good luck

Just buy a set of mufflers, like Magnaflow and take them to a shop and have them custom installed. The reason C5 setups are so expensive is
1. It's a corvette Duh
2. They always come with the full axle back system.
But you can get a muffler shop to custom fit a set of mufflers to your existing axle back. I have a set I bought from a member here. I haven't installed them yet though because I decided I liked the exhaust on the car.

We did this on my friends 01 coupe and it sounded pretty good.

mufflers on a budget
1st thing,I ain't selling corvette! But I may be living with the wussy exhaust sound. LOL! I really do appreciate everyones input. I'm 62,1st vette and I love it. I don't want it to purrrrrrr like a kitty....I want it to grrrrroooooowwllll like a lion. I was hoping to find something that cost less and not be poor quality. I may be looking for something that doesn't exsit. Any one else have any info please chime in.
Thanks

Look for a used set in the forum buy/sell section - they turn up fairly often. You probably would be ok with FM's, Corsas or Borlas. Go out to youtube and google up sound clips of them and see what you like. Then pay attn to the forum.

There are some axle back systems that basically don't have a muffler... They're pretty cheap at ~$300 or so, might be able to find it cheaper. They're LOUD though, and have a lot of drone on the highway, but IMO they sound pretty good.
I'd say to trawl through the for sale forum. Wait for someone local to list a used exhaust system, usually they sell for about half of retail price when used.

This was done on my car before I bought it and it doesn't sound half bad at all. Not enough volume though. But I'm getting ready for LG Streets, ORX, and GHL Bullets in about a month or so.

Just remove the stock mufflers. Catbacks just weigh you down back there . In all honesty, I went with B&B bullets, muffler-less system. Just waited a little longer till I could afford it. It's a difficult wait though lol.
