Default Is it me or the car?

I'm at the track right now and two runs in a row I'm not getting it in 2nd gear. I am taking it up to about 5400 rpm. What am I doing wrong or what's going on?

It's a 97 coupe manual.

I've had trouble getting into 4th last time on the tack but on the road it's fine.

Tips?

Yeah, you're nervous. Calm down. And LS1's love to rev. Shift it at 6100.

Don't go for super duper speed shifts. Go as slow as you have to but as fast as you can to get the stick where you need it. I learned this after having a mechanical over-rev because I didn't put enough lateral pressure into the 2-3 upshift.

I read on an ls1 forum that the tick mod could possibly fix this? Apparently the stock master cylindar is not allowing enought fluid to lubricate gears? Can anyone speak to this?

Check the fluid in the clutch reservoir. is it black and super dirty? If it is, change the fluid and it will probably shift better.

Could also be the slave cylinder, clutch, shifter, or syncros. Try the easy stuff first. Swap fluids.

Tick master cylinder is an awesome mod but I personally won't be doing it until I need to replace the clutch.

Agree with everything said, as mentioned start with the inexpensive items and move up as necessary. Not trying to be an a@@hole here but just remember when it comes to racing, the pros on the circuit beef up their engines, transmissions, shift kits, gear housings, suspension, etc. for a reason. If you're going to continue racing because that's what you enjoy, then maybe to get rid of some of your frustration you'll need to move from stock. The Z has a little better shift kit but not much. I don't race anymore but if I did I'd upgrade, JMHO.

Did some more research and seems like my first problem is my fluid is black and full of crap. I am going to start there and probably do the drill mod which is free. If it still doesn't resolve the problem I will buy the tick mod.

I don't plan on racing a lot but I thought a trip once in a while would be fun. Can run it there is I can't even shift hard.
