It is very difficult to convey differences in emotion over text. Also, some people feel an obligation to make a positive comment regardless of what the post is. I think you just have to try to really get to know the members, in the virtual sense, and consider the source rather than translating it into the way that you use a certain term.

That said, I understand what you mean but it doesn't bother me. If someone who always makes similar comments posts his typical comment then it doesn't impress. However if it is the opposite type person then it carries a little more effect, that's for sure.

For me, I try to stay away from the cliches like WOW and when I really feel that way I will be specific and say something like "Wow, your choice to paint those wheels grey really worked out awesome on your blue car and really modernized your look." This way everyone know better how the comment was meant.

wow1 (waʊ)
interj.
1. (an exclamation of surprise, wonder, pleasure, or the like.)
v.t.
2. to gain an enthusiastic response from; thrill.
n.
3. an extraordinary success.
4. excitement, interest, great pleasure, or the like.

I use WOW a lot. I guess I'm easily WOWED.

You feel better now? ET, this just isn't like you. Looks like it's going to be a great day in PA - time to go out for a drive and get those ions back into alignment.

Because there are 150 different shift ***** available, the word " Wow " hardly would describe one over the other. So my question is, does it bother anyone else that the word Wow is used to describe a mediocre change in their C5? IM not trying to be mean, just point out that the word WoW should be reserved for something that is truly WOW appropriate. When I see the word Wow used to describe anything , I immediately dismiss that person's input and credibility as a reviewer of anything.
along these same lines, the phrase " Pull the trigger" also make me want to hurl. Talk about something that has been over played for the last ten years. OK, I'm venting.... you can hate me.
I call it " paroting " There seems to be a lot of it on here but I thought I was the only one to notice. Some people need to get a mind of their own instead of just paroting what someone else says.

WOW! Don't be so sensitive

Eehhhhhhhh! to me it's no big deal!

I got an idea:

Let's make a list or if you have suggestions of other words to use instead of "WOW" let's get it going!

Thanks,Matt

Nothing too deep, or earth shaking. Nothing sinister either.
I always though that should be "squeeze" the trigger.

I use the word wow a little more routinely. I guess I place less value on the use of the term. For example, I'd classify this as a wow (no it's not my car).

Default Wow - proper use of the English language

I agree. Current slang usage of words intended for extraordinary situations only dilutes/cheapens our language.

As Sir Winston Churchill noted, "This is the sort of English up with which I will not put."

But I am sure Sir Wiston would have approved of me saying to you, "Have a nice day, y'all."

Nicely said and I agree. However, we are way past the question of whether or language will be cheapened. Technology/text blew that out of the water 5-10 years ago. So, on a forum such as this it is a moot point, but hopefully in 1on1 text or verbal discussions between two educated folks, we can still maintain the value of language/vocabulary.
