the best oil to use???
I've used vavoline synthitc oil for the past 40,000 miles. (not sure what the previous owner used) I was just wondering what you other c5 guys use? I've heard that castrol synthetic is good, any thoughts? I'm sorta shy to moble 1, I've never ran it before and have heard it burns off too easy. Also I use k&N filters.
My car has a 120,000 on her and would changing synthetic oil be bad and do internal damage?

I've used the Mobil one that the manufacturer says to use and I can't say that I've had any problems. Other oils are just as good as long as the meet the specs that General Motors says that the car needs.

Sigh, there is a search button. And it does work!
Talking about oil is like taking about religion, tires, or anything where there's going to be too many different answers to come to one conclusion.
OP: I run Amsoil Zrod on my built LS7. My performance shop here in Houston highly recommend it for my engine build and after some of my own research I decided to go with it. FYI Mobil 1 since time has changed a couple things to their old formula of oil. Just thought I'd throw that out there. Hope it helps.

Mobil 1 here, as for the search key,IT'S USELESS! You punch in key words and a whole lot of other B.S pops up. Then you have to spend a lot of time scrolling down a bunch of useless threads until you find what you need. Lot easier to ask on here and get good response quicker, unless it's others that want to bash a new member. Welcome to the forum friend, and use what has always worked for you. L8R ZFLASH

mobil one is what i have ran in my C5 Z06 for over 25k miles over 3 years and no issues at at all. we even run it in my dad's 08 Z06 and it seems to perform pretty well in there as well, if I were to switch to any other motor oil it would be amsoil oe stuff for get the name atm but that seems to outperform mobil one , but my car is a driver and not a race car so I am more then confident that mobil one will meet my needs as well as several other members here as well...btw welcome to the forum!!!

I use Mobil 1 5W30 full synthetic oil just like what the car came from the factory with. No problems in any of the 3 C5s I've owned.

You shouldn't worry what oil you use as long as it meets the GM4718M spec. I use Pennzoil Platinum, but that's just a personal choice. Use whatever you want as long as it meets spec.

GM recommends Moble 1, that is what it reads on the oil cap, I figured they designed the car so they should know best what oil to use. Only problem I have is it is expensive, 65.00 bucks last oil change and I did it myself. Oil is supposed to be good for 15,000 so it equals out I guess.

OK; you guys do know that oil, spark plug, tire etc. manufacturers’ cut deals and PAY for a car manufacturer to use their product.....
Like Coke being the "exclusive soft drink" of the Olympics
Mobil 1 has changed their formula, and while it is still a "good" oil for stock vehicles, it certainly wont appear in the top 10 of any of the "oil testing sessions"

There is nothing wrong with Mobil 1, Now K&N filter I wouldn't use, Look under your car and you will see that the nut on the filter is the lowest part under the car, Good chance you could scrape it and lose your oil, I have read on here where some have removed the filter and found it had marks on it. Why invite trouble?
