For sure get out and drive it, but enjoy no car payments for a while. Save the money - eventually you may want to get a newer one and a nice down payment would be a wise move.

Save, add performance upgrades ...
Save some more, drive it like you stole it...
Save additional mula, stay out of jail...
Live life to the EXTREME; whatever that might be.

So here's what I bought to celebrate paying off the car. As you may have seen in my earlier post, I decided to do a much needed stereo-upgrade to replace my sad old tape deck!
Notice, this stereo has no CD player! Crazy, huh? My main source of music will be a USB hard drive installed under the dash, probably in an inconspicuous place in the passenger-side footwell. That means I can keep my entire ~450 CD collection just a button press away, no bulky CD cases to carry around, no nonsense.
This is the head unit I decided on, a Kenwood KIV-701 ($214)
Picked a Humount for mounting (mine will have a reg logo, no Chevy lettering, no outline) ($85 + $15 s/h)
Other crap I needed: PAC ROEMVET-1 factory system adapter ($35), and a USB mount to install in the center console so passengers can plug-and-play their own music ($21 + $3 hub)

The hard drive I'm going to use is a 500G 2.5" Samsung with an aftermarket external enclosure. It would probably cost $50-100 if I had to buy one. Its cost is not included in the total below.
Grand Total: $373
I had a really hard time choosing between this and the JVC KD-AVX77. The KD-AVX77, on the surface, is much cooler looking (because let's face it, you can't just put any old stereo in vette) but I had serious concerns about operating a touch-only interface while driving. I think a well designed car stereo should be operable without looking. The other thing was, as is often the case with car-based touch system, the icons were quite sub-par compared to the slick UIs we've come to expect from tablets and smart phones. So hopefully I will enjoy the Kenwood KIV-701 that I settled on. This will already be the most expensive car stereo install I've ever done, and I've done at least 7 custom installs before.

No arguments here! I bet they also cost 5-10x more! And unfortunately, they won't provide much entertainment when I'm sitting in downtown traffic every morning. But the stereo will! Oh yeah, my vette is my daily driver whenever the roads are salt-free.
