Fuel issue? You mean the fuel pump? They are warrantied to 120k so if it goes its replaced. I've put 4k on my car so far with no issues what so ever. Changed my plugs and they look good. Ill eventually do the valve cleaning. Probably sometime this summer.
But if you are talking about throwing a A&A on a C5 then Ill talk about throwing a Vargas set of twins on the 335 which put down over 600rwhp.

If you dont know what a 335i is then you aren't a car enthusiast like most of here are. I didnt know you HAD to currently own a vette to come on here and talk about ONLY vettes.

It costs a bit more than $1,000 to hit those numbers with the 335, most guys running that are running Juice box 4/ Cobb + support... definitely quick cars((some have had issues though), but better suited to run a full bolt-on vette, H/C should still pull away..

My good friend also bought the xtended warranty for his 335i....unfortunately he still got stuck with a repair bill when it threw a code or two.......He only had it about 2 months but felt like it was a rip-off and left the car there and drove off in another brand's vehicle.

Hopefully you won't be singing the BMW Blues later.

There's just something about a vette that cannot be duplicated by any (affordable) car in my opinion. Personally, I'm going to try to own one from here on out. When my 97 goes, it'll be for another one.

a 335i couldnt even touch a base c5 auto on runflats with 2.73 gears on a road course or autox.

I know it is bigger, but my brother has a 535 with a few mods. It is a very nice car and fun to drive, but it is not in the same class as a C5.

535 is a completely different class of car than a 335. I've driven both and the 3 series is considerably more sporty, as it should be as they are aimed at different people.

As far as the road course, a M3 or tuned 335i would probably be a lot closer than a lot of people seem to think

I like the 335's and their mod potential; E90 auto: 119-120mph traps with tune/downpipes/E85.

I have owned 11 BMWs over the years, and currently own a 328i sedan that my bride drives now.

All have been exactly as advertised - driver's cars. Great handling, great braking, great interior/exterior fit and finish and not particularly expensive to operate (that is, until the warranty expires). They aren't sports cars, however, and never will be.

Now BMW does build one true 2 seater, the Z4. I test drove a Z4 before settling on my MY 2002 C5 coupe. That car drove heavy (that's because it IS heavy, weighing quite a bit more than the C5). Great hendling, but my sense was it would chew up tires like my dog eats Milkbones.

Notwithstanding my affinity for BMWs, I am gunshy of the 3 liter (litre to those across the Pond) turbos. From all accounts, the first couple of years' turbocharged 335s all ran hot - really hot - hot to the point of destroying the engine. Living in Texas, that engine's reputation prevented me from wanting to drive one on the local freeways - particularly in rush hour 107 degree summer heat.

My supercharged C5, on the other hand, ran perfectly last summer (i.e. didn't overheat), even when the thermometer registered 113 degrees. So I guess my lack of confidence in the BMW 335 arises solely from that turbocharged engine's historically bad manners.

I guess if you live in a climate where summer temperatures rarely climb above 85 - 90 degrees, turbo over-heating might be low on your list of concerns.

Overall, comparing a 335 turbo to a C5 is like comparing a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited to a Land Rover. Yeah, they're both capable 4-door "off-road" vehicles, but beyond having 4-wheel drive and 4 doors, they aren't remotely similar.

Gees, I think something was wrong with the Vette. I beat a 335i modded and tuned by a couple car lengths in my 2010 bolt on pig, l99 Camaro...he ran me a second time, red lighted and I still beat him. Nice cars, but no competition for a properly driven C5, in my opinion.

A tune only 335i kept up very well with my Z06 when I had just bolt-ons. That same car would have no issues against any bolt-on base C5 or 5th gen camaro.

That said, a "tune-only" turbo car can vary widely in HP against another "tune-only" since the tune usually just consists of upping the boost. I know the Cobb and JB4 tuners for the 335i have different settings which can vary boost from stock (9 psi I think?) to something like 17 psi, a difference of about 130 hp. So I don't doubt your story, but don't go thinking every lightly modded 335i/135i will be that slow.

One of the fellow engineers I work with just bought a 2012 135i late last year. He took me for a ride and i must say, very impressed. But after I took him for a ride in the z06 he knew that girls car he purchased was no match for the z06.

It is a nice quick car.....but not a sportscar by a long shot.

I like BMW's and almost bought a 2003 m3 over the vette but I couldnt get over maintenance cost. The vette is a poor man's super car that anyone can work on and is also very reliable.
