Default My little rant regarding tire pressure sensors

So I ordered 4 tire pressure sensors- fast forward a couple of days to when the sensors arrive. Come to find out, the sensors DON'T come with the nuts! That's logical! Let's just extract another $27 out of our customers for 4 stinkin' nuts. What a joke. Thanks GM.

Probably expect you to reuse the old ones. Might make GM go broke to include the four nuts.

I just ordered one (1) and it didn't work, they gave me another one but now have to have that one removed and the new one installed.

Thanks, that's actually my next fear. How do I know that these sensors haven't been sitting on a shelf in some warehouse for 8 years and the batteries are that old already!

all tps have a date stamp on the black plastic body a date stamp looks like a clock in the center there is a circle with a number in it like 13, which would indicate the year they were made in this case 2013.. around the outside there are 12 numbers like a clock with an arrow pointing the the month they were made

IN this case the tps was made in 2006 in the tenth month

I just put new ones in. Wish I knew about that date code so I knew how old they were. Thanks for the info.

Awesome information. Thanks for the tip, ET! The ones I received were all produced in Oct 2012, so it looks like I got relatively new stock off the shelf.

It is strange that GM charges that much for them.

I bought Schrader sensors last summer. They are the manufacturer of the OEM sensors. They come with the new nuts.

Rock auto has a Schrader TPMS service kit that is only $1.13 and includes the nut, a new seal, a new valve core, and cap. I bought a few sets when I bought sensors since I change wheels fairly often and wanted the new seals.

I also question whether there is any reason for new nuts. Why can't you reuse the old ones?

I bought 4 new sensors from a local auto parts house for 38 bucks each and they came with o-rings and nuts, Same sensor as GM.

Good to know that the sensors other than the GM ones work well. I don't need any right now, but when I do, I will certainly check out my options.

My outgoing wheel and tire setup is getting sold without dismounting the tires.

Good point, thats why you might need the new nuts to be sold with the new TPS
