Short Throw Shifter debate
I currently have an 03 Z with minor bolt ons, LG pro's/Corsa Extreme, Black Wing CAI , Textralia OZ700 clutch package, HS trunion upgrade, Comp Cams Beehive's and an ECS tune. Installed is the stock C5 Shift Box and a Hurst Shifter of which I am very unimpressed with.
I have been considering 3 options, but let me tell you what I dont like about the Hurst;
1. Sometimes it will not go into gear unless I let out the clutch a bit.
2. Very Notchy .
3. Has a lot of road noise vibration.
4. Stiff shifts.
5. I missed 3rd on a couple occasions and at other times notice some gears hard to find.
6. Reverse takes an arm to engage
What I want;
1. I want smooth butter smooth shifts with a simple click
2. Easy gear location
3. Directed shifts 1-2-3-4.
4. I dont want reverse to be a Bit@#
5. I would like for my wife to be able to drive this, as she also loves a sports car..
So my current choices are
MGW
Kirban Kwik
RSD Snap.....leaning towards this one..
What do you guys think?

MGW isn't ideal for 4 or 5 based on my personal experience with it. I like the thing, but even if my girlfriend could drive a manual she'd hardly be able to muscle this thing into reverse.

I drive the MGW with a 1/8" detent bolt spacer - a combo that works well for me. But, if driveability by my girlfriend was a primary concern, I'd go with the RSD Snap instead.
EDIT: The more I read about the Kirban, the more it also sounds like a good option. They claim 20% shorter shifts than stock, but the handle is only 1/2" shorter. Since the leverarm isn't cut down much, shifts should still be relatively easy.

I have the RSD with a C6 **** and I think it hits all the requirements
you posted. I had a B+M Ripper shifter prior to this and did not care
for the way it felt.
YMMV,

I really like the Kirban. Good spring loaded centering action, not overly short, adjustable shift stops and didn't rattle under acceleration like some of the others.

Thanks for the comments, So I thought the RSD was a C6Z Shifter cut down and threaded for a shifter ****?
Now I am thinking about doing that, I did this with my old FRC and I think the shifts were better, but I cant remember.
The Kirban sucked in my FRC but in 2 of my friends Z06's it was killer smooth.
So I wonder if the C6 shift box with a Kirban would be the best option........hmmm

threaded shifter. If you like the C6 shifter but want a slightly shorter
throw, this will work well for you. You won't get the ultra precise, ultra
close gated feel but you will also not have the heaviness, notchyness,
or vibration/rattle that many of the aftermarket shifters exhibit. It really
does depend on your personal preferences.
On a side note. A special thanks should be given to MGW for the
incredibly good installation video provided on their web site. If their
shifter had not been a bit heavy for my taste, that video alone would
have been enough to push me to buy their excellent quality product.

Installed my MGW Shifter last weekend! It is a superb addition to my car. The instructional video made it very simple to do. In the video it stated that some guys where able to muscle the stock **** down to the second hole. Do not try that!! The washer gets in the way. The only way to get it to the second hole is to remove that washer from the shifter before re-installing the console and somehow remove the notch inside the factory **** that stops the **** on the shifter. Otherwise it works awesome! I do recomend it to anyone thinking of doing this easy project!!!

a longer shift lever makes shifting easier.
shifting the M6 or M12 is not one simple click, but two clicks: out of gear to neutral ( one click) neutral to next gear ( second click)

The oem shifter was sloppy but it's longer throw made for easier engagement. The MGW is an improvement but requires practice.

I have an MTI six shooter and it sounds like it may be exactly what your looking for. There is really no increase in shift effort, but the shifts are shorter and more precise with very minimal notchiness.

It is a decent shifter; I have had the HURST and the B&Ms and I do not notice much difference in the pattern, but do notice that there is no notchyness. My wife hated driving my car before, she loves it now, because the shifter is smoother!

I had a MGW with medium orange handle in my Cobra for several years. It was stiff when new but after a few times to the drag strip and on a road course, it was awesome. You just have to wear them in and get used to them. Very precice and saves your shift forks.
