WRONG...when it comes to street tires. Slicks it doesn't matter as much, but 200+ compound tires get really hard when cold. They don't get that much better when warmed up in a burn out.

Yeah, we went to silver dollar. I notice you live in atlanta, I am actually only about 20 minutes south of atlanta. I live in jonesboro, off of lake spivey if youve ever heard of it. I will definitely agree now that a good running bolt on c5 will run with a stockish z06.
Exactly, when the temp is warm outside, my tires actually have a little softness to them, you can press in on the rubber a little bit, but the other night they were hard as a rock!

Ran my 2002 z06 tonight at silver dollar raceway. Car very few mods and is just about to roll 70,000 miles. The weather was super cold and the d/a out was amazing.. Something like -300 However the pavement was ice cold and I skated 3-4 passes down the track before i decided to do a 4-5 second burnout with the stock tires. That helped and I was actually able to make 2 full passes.
I swore I thought this car was way faster than my old c5. It was a 2001 c5 baee with kook lt, x pipe, ti exhaust and a cai, and went 12.7@115.8. They actually seem to be very close on numbers, with the z06 trapping a little less. Anyways, hope you enjoy the thread.
Thanks,
Craig

Melting Slicks
if you need new tires at this point, I would go with the nitti DRs, thats what I did 2 years ago, and they work good at the track and for all around driving, if your going to beat on your car at the track, might as well give it a good chance to turn a good time.

I have pulled many 1.80's 60' times on stock tires, So saying it cant be done is rediculous... Its really not that hard but it does take some skill, Learn to slip the clutch out for the first few feet then progressively throttle down harder until you feel you are hooked then WOT... This all happens very quickly!!!
OP work on your launch techniques and your time will drop significantly... Nice pass for your first time and keep it up...

Agreed! Pulled several 1.8's on OEM tires and most in 40° and below temps(really the only time I track the car). My fastest stock 1/4 mile time was with a 1.8 and about 36° out. Best fwd 60 in a stage2 cobalt ss was a 1.9 on kuhmo esactas on a high 30 degree night. Definitely not impossible just some good seat time and grasping the clutch slip. Good luck!
My self I had a ss.sc stage 2 and intake and pulled 13.9@103 (60ft 2.19)
I was on cobaltnet for 3 years and I assume ur a record holder for street tire 60ft or pretty close to it?

I have the slip around somewhere. I believe it was a 13.6@111mph mods in my signature. I was on that site as well sent my slip and video in but it never got posted. On DR's that car was low 13's easy.

I will definitely go back again, If I have street tires I will try some new things and see if I cant get in the sub 2 second range. I just bought a set of kooks 1 7/8 stainless long tubes about 15 minutes ago, so I will probably install those before my next track visit. I might buy some drag radials next week, not sure yet.. I am still doing a little research of what size I am going to run..

Also remember, Doing a burnout in the box on street tires does more harm then good!!! If anything just pop the clutch quickly to clean off the tires and keep away from the bleach box... Also make sure "If you are on street tires" to run the psi on the fronts max and drop your rear to around 25lbs or so... This will help you a lot... GL and I look forward to seeing a new PB
