Well I'm starting to fall for this car. Every time I drive it the more I love it. Well I do work on cars for a living, so I brought it into the shop and here is a list of the things I found:
Rack leaks, rear diff leaks, fuel residue around tank, nipple on coolant reservoir cracked. Now these leaks are not excessive. Now please keep in mind that I know nothing about Vettes. My concern is when it does come time to fix these issues what's it gonna take to do and the cost. Any info will be greatly appreciated, thank you.

F that.. I got a 99 in PERFECT condition with 48k for 15. I'd keep looking if I were you.. I also got a warranty and was able to finance it through one of those companies associated with autotrader.

Its got all the bells and whistles too.. racing interior HUD ect. I'm telling you keep looking there are some really good deals out there that involve no headaches.

Do you guy's read?? He works on cars for a living. The repairs that are needed for that car are cheap if you are a Mechanic.
Buy the car OP, you won't regret it and it's at a good price also.

Agreed buy the car it's no different than any car if you are a mechanic and that's a incredible deal only cheaper ones you get are when there either beaten or molested ie different interior (racing seats) or different body parts or paint work etc
Buy it enjoy it and guaranteed in a couple years your still gettin most of your money back

I have NO idea where this silly idea that a 2001 is better came from, but personally, I'd go for the low miles and ignore the year model.[/QUOTE]

100%! The newer ones have more stuff but that is also more stuff than can go bad. [not that it will]. I've had 3 c-5's [2 97's and 1 "99"] and never a major problem with any of them. The condition of the car is way more important than the year of the car!
I say go for it

Nice lookin' car there pard! That could be my car except for the roof and wheels. Mine's a 98, paid $12.9K for it about 1.5 yrs ago for it. It had a couple of the "common" issues, dim HVAC control unit and oil sensor maxxed out. Have 120K miles on it now and no issues whatsoever. Fixing to put in a bunch of engine mods in about 2-3 weeks, hope to add about 200hp. I'll be keeping mine, so I'm not worried about resale value or anything else. I'll be keeping it because it makes me very very happy. If you like it, go for it... also, while not 100% guaranteed, Chuck of Winchester (CoW) now repairs the early ABS units. Here's the link to that thread.

Here's a pic of mine.

Axle seals leak, but much of that leak is coming from the shift housing on the trans.

While it's out, remove and re-seal it!

I dont know were some of you guys come up with your prices. Really 12.000 is to much. its not a 98 cavalier. Look and try and buy a mid 70's vette for that much and see how you do. You have to do work on the car no matter what the year.
