How much to get my 04 z06 cammed??
What's up everybody.. I'm new to corvette forums, just got an 04 z06. Wanting to cam it. How much for install, dyno, tune, and who to go to in maryland? I know a few guys but my boy Jeff.. His shop burned down and he's the one who cammed my Gto.. So any help on the best shop to go to, how big of a cam on stock motor minus bolt on.. What to add with the cam.. Prices and numbers I should see after cam and tune? Please help.. New to the corvette side of cars.
Thanks,
Nick

Gee, prices have gone up since I changed the cam in my 69 (back in 75) from the 350 hydraulic lifter cam to a stock LT-1 solid lifter for about $150. Did the labor myself back then. I don't really miss that car, but I do miss being in my 20's, single with a really good job.

One thing I'd be curious about would be what is the going rate for "camming" a C5 if you have your own parts. i.e labor only. Anyone know?

Pretty much my same question? Or labor, plus parts.. cam only.. Valve springs, intake manifold, push rods, under drive pulley if needed.. Timing chain.. What set up to go with on a stock motor or what set ups & numbers people have made?

Tune will make or break your cam experience. It ruined mine.
Puttin 243's on before I pay for a retune. I've heard the guy that does RKT 56's tunes is good. Cant say cause he didnt do mine.

thanks guys, does the 3.90 gears mess up drivability? and I just got off the phone with RKT.. seems like he knows his stuff. not sure if I am taking it there yet.. trying to firgure out the best build for streetable drag.. cam only plus bolt ons full exhaust, longtubes, fast manifold, intake, ported tb, timing chain, UD pulley, valve springs, cam specs & lift, rods? my 06 goat I thought would be similar since its an LS2 but it is another ball game.. any help or advice I will take. thanks!

^ The more aggressive gears will definitely effect gas mileage in a negative way, well, and of course, tires.
Depending on the aggressiveness of the cam / tune, you may need larger injectors as well. Then, of course, you are at the limits of your stock clutch, if you are still running the stocker. Gets expensive real quick.
If you are worried about drivability, have you looked into going the supercharger route?

Put a great big Donkey Dick cam in there and make the car no fun to drive anymore...
Seriously, decide what your goals are and use the smallest cam possible to get the job done. Do you have long tube headers already? If not, you'll need those to let even a moderate size cam breath. Cold air intake setup? Same as the LT's.
Rick Kim is a good suggestion up in Frederick. Ed Hutchings also visits Rick from time to time to tune customer's cars. A great tune is critical to being happy with the results and Ed is the man!
