Default Dont skip parts for clutch job!

I'm a dumbass......

I should already know this. I've been through at least half a dozen clutch jobs on my last C5. But this week I set about installing my Spec 3+, Mcleod master, tick bleeder, ect. I tried to skip out on a new slave. "The car only has 35k miles" I told myself.....

Sure enough when I tried to bleed the clutch I had trouble getting a full peddle.....then found the puddle under the slave. At first I thought maybe I didnt tighten the remote bleeder enough. So I set about reinstalling it covered in loc-tite and torqing it to within an inch of the aluminum castings life. Reinstalled it...nope still leaks.

The only silver lining here, I didnt put the car all the way back together before trying to bleed the clutch. I just had the torque tube bolted up and the cradle nuts installed. The second try I did 1 torque tube bolt with the cradle still held up by the jack

Anyway, here I sit...wiating on a new slave to come in so I can put my car back together.

Good that you posted this, you give actual expereince of the consequences not doing the complete job and how it turned out. Sometimes we get tempted and short change ourselves. I too am doing a clutch upgrade next month but will R&R everything while doing it.

It is VERY VERY easy to over adjust the Tick and blow the slave. Adjust it only high enough so the car doesn't move when on a flat surface in gear. Your pedal will be lower than the brake pedal.

Like you said, at least you caught it before the car was totally put back together. Good lesson learned and a useful reminder for anyone contemplating doing a clutch job.

I drove my 98 HARD every day. I also kept upgrading HP and exceeding the clutch. I did z06 clutch, spec 1(then cam, bolts ons), spec 3(then procharger) and finally Spec 3+. And then there was the broken torque tube couplers...broken torque tube ect.

This was the first clutch job on my Cam and bolt ons Z06 and I went right to the 3+ to skip some steps. Its full faced and daily driver friendly(ish)....but if I go forced induction down the road it will hold I dont drive this car nearly as hard as the 98..but I still make use of the power regularly enough.
