Default ac delco battery question

have to replace my 2004 top post # 86 battery. will replace with
pt# 19001632 ac delco #78PS-6yr . it has 700 CCA & 120 RC.
i know some of you have done this before, but the new battery
has side mounts for cables. did you have to bend clamp ends to
use or is there an adapter for such . i can't find one. if i bend
clamp end ,will it break. or what? thanks, jerry

I also have a 2004 C5 and my original battery also had top posts. I replaced my original battery with an AC Delco 7-year professional battery and it also has top posts. You may want to exchange the battery because I tried ordering a replacement negative battery cable and the GM parts suppliers shipped me a straight clamp, not the L-shaped clamp that was originally on the car.

I believe GM began to swap out the battery styles/clamps mid year during the 2004 production run in preparation for the C6.

I also think you're better off finding a replacement battery with top posts vs. swapping out battery cables. I don't believe you can bend the clamps and I'm not sure about adapters.

Check Autozone, Pepboys etc.. There are adapters made that bolt to the side mount battery that have a post on them to attach your cables. Something like this:

One other question. Someone mentioned that the delco. 78-6yr battery
Can be bought with top mount posts. The ones that I saw were side
Mount. If so, what is the part no.? I want the 78ps-6yr series as it
Has 700cca & 120cr.thanks-------jerry

From another thread this shows a dual terminal Professional. Doesn't have the p/n though-you'd need to research:
