Default Z06 died update

saw the post about all the 02/03 Z06 cars whose valves have failed. I am getting the requested information on the car.

In the mean time they are suggesting replacing the heads,#7 cyl piston and a replacement intake.

What would be your recommendations??

Fast intake
AFR heads??
Any and all information will be appreciated.

Did your Z06 drop a valve due to valve spring failure? Who are "they" and why are they saying to replace all that stuff?

The valves have not failed...the valve spring breaks which then drops the valve into the cylinder causing a big mess. I assume this is what happened to you?

Why replace both heads and only 1 piston? Was your intake damaged somehow? What is the extent of the damage...more information would be helpful.

Default Thats the question

The car is at a shop. Originally they/we were going to replace the motor with a Jasper LS6 that comes with a 3 yr 100k warranty. Turns out they have none and expect one in 4 weeks. We them thought maybe we can replace the 7th cyl and add new heads, cam and intake

See, a spring failed, valve dropped destroyed piston and portions of the debris ruined a portion of the intake.

the big thing, is that the block has close to 100k on her and what's to keep another valve in another cyl from happening.

right now we are looking at a $400 Fast intake, 3200 for cam and heads.

If we wait for the Jasper LS6 it is 3500 and the warranty

Once you replace all the valve springs, the problem is mitigated.

Those are definitely good prices. I'm assuming the FAST is used, but there's nothing wrong with that. As for the heads, the only options I would consider are: AFR, Trick Flow, or oem 243's ported by a reputable place like TEA or AI.

Is the LS7 crate engine a straightforward bolt in for the C5. I'm guessing the main problems would be with the electrical harness and the clutch and differential handling the extra power. I'm sure someone here has done this with their C5 and the LS7 crate engine seems to be more readily available than the LS6.

An LS3 is an easier 'bolt in' than the LS7 plus the LS3's are much more affordable. I would go LS3 if my stock motor ever let go.

A 3500 STOCK REBUILD???????????????????? GET OUT OF THERE!!

YOUR PISTON IS DONE, BUT HOW DOES THE CYLINDER WALL LOOK, maybe you got lucky?

Maybe this is information someone doesn't want you to know as they can replace the piston/rings in that cylinder(lucky/rare case) and sell the motor to someone else when you have considered it 'scrap'...............just a possible scenario

I'd contact Howard Tanner at Redline Motorsports ASAP

Both engines are the same installation. The C5 uses a 24x reluctor wheel on the crankshaft and the new GEN 4 engines (LS3,LS7) use a 58x. LPE sells a conversion box to address that. Next item is the knock sensors and cam sensors are in different locations but there are adapter harness to address that as well.

Big difference in price between a LS3 and a LS7 complete.

Regarding the damage on this engine; please make sure that besides the walls finish, the cylinders can get out of round real fast when parts bind up in the engine. Its strongly suggested that a deck plate be installed and the bores checked 90 degrees and at three points up the bore..

Don't you also have to install the dry sump oiling system for the LS7? I've seen where they are installed in the battery location, then you have to relocate the battery to the trunk. That sounds like a lot of added work and expense alone. The cost of the LS3 over the LS7 is the main reason I'd go with it.
