It's both. I'm not fond of the heads, but the overall car sounds like a nice car with a stock rebuilt shortblock and a mild head/cam mod. I'd ask if he had the original heads.

I like to buy stock then do the work myself, I'm just not into buying someone else's build. Now if you don't do the work yourself as a hobby then buying someone else's build is a option. I don't like the heads, with the money he spent on everything there were other better options. One of the reasons I like to buy stock is I worry that someone has really raced the life out of the car. If he was a car show guy and everything was for looks that's one thing but if he was tracking the car I would be worried. Don't let me bum you out I really like the planning and doing the work myself, but that's just me.

I never understood why people pulled a great head such as the LS6 and slapped on 5.3 heads? Why not just have the LS6 heads ported?

really good deal popped up at a dealer in PA today

could see if there is any flex but 2003z with 19k miles and an ask of 21k isn't bad. getting it at 20 would be even better
similar boat to this 01 you're looking at only with a LOT more resale

Damn, has to be on the other side of the country, cause that is a great looking car. Not a huge red fan, but at least its not yellow. That color and I don't mesh. Maybe ill get lucky and have something pop up closer. Thanks racebum! Been a huge help!

Not a big fan of the Delco Rotors. So he has done all this to do what. I would want to know how it has been driven!!! Don't want to buy some one else's problems.
My personal opinion, it's not to hard right now to find a low milage pampered car, completely stock. Get that, spend time deciding what you want done to the car, get suggestions on a good shop you can trust in your area, and have the work done yourself. Believe me you will be much better of in the long run with the amount of money spent, and trust that the car is done to your satisfaction.
Good luck in your decisions!!!

Well I have a local option as well. He had an out of state buyer, but they backed out. This is the car.

I'd fly cross country for the 19k mile red one over the black one especially for the same money. I did fly 800 miles to get my FRC. But I do like torch red.

Was dead against black simply because its so hard to take care of and keep clean. I must admit now after owning the TR, that damn black is so sexy!

I know about the cam, and the sodium filled valves, both which i could care less about, but the heads were better flowing?
Can somebody confirm this?
Honestly, that a heck of a bunch of changes that as far as I know result in ~10 rear wheel HP difference?

Sorry but thats wrong information youve been told... if its the same 243 casting then its the same head. Otherwise the casting number would have changed.

I have read tons on the differences between the 01 and 02 Z's, this is the first I have heard about the heads being different.

the 02 to 04 243 heads had the little triangle casting marks, slight better flow.
Power SecretHere's a secret: If you want the best heads for performance, make sure your heads have these small triangle marks below every spark plug hole. The marks are left by "chills" used during the casting process in GM's semi-permanent mold (SPM) tooling. Of the three casting facilities that make Gen III cylinder heads, two use SPM tooling, the other heads are sand-cast. The SPM tools produce heads with very smooth, consistent ports and chambers which consistently dyno at least 4 to 7 hp better than the sand-cast heads.

just like the LS6 blocks. the 01 LS6 blocks were different then the 02-04 LS6 blocks.
the 01s had some minor oil leak issues as well
the 02-04 blocks had better oiling gallies, and better coolant passageways between and around #7 and #8 cylinders plus slightly more mass around #7 #8 as well.
The 02-04s use a "bat wing" oil pan which help prevent oil sloshing around.
and from mid 02 on the LS1 block was discontinued and all were LS6 blocks.
No HP changes but the block was built a little stronger.
so when some one says the want to add more HP to an 01 LS6 block, I cringe a bit.
