Default So I Plastidipped my 3 Piece HREs

And it came out great!

These were originally chrome faces with polished lips. I bought them under the assumption that I would powdercoat them but the more I looked into it, the more I discovered that chrome plating is hard to remove and powdercoating heat treated aluminum has some risks associated with it.

Painting chrome is also somewhat difficult as it's simply too fine of a finish for paint to adhere to. That's where plastidip comes in. Plastidip adheres to chrome quite well and respraying chips is a lot easier than real paint.

Since the wheels are 3 piece, I only wanted to paint the faces and leave the lips polished. I also wanted to keep the rivets chrome. I used twist on wire connectors to cover the rivets. I applied 4 coats and polished the lips afterwards.

The actual spraying of the plastidip is super easy.

Pretty impressive. I would not have thought they'd turn out that well.

That does look great, if you have time can you post your steps from start to finish , what you used to keep the dip off the parts not to be done etc. Considering trying that myself.

Freaking sweet! Great job!

I have been thinking of doing my chrome speedlines too, but wasn't sure how well the dip would stick to chrome. Did you simply clean the chrome before painting? Any special products you used? Any kind of paint promoters? Looks great!

I really like how you masked off the rivets with those plastic caps. Nice idea. The wheels look great! My first thought when I saw the title was "who would PD a set of HREs???" but I think they look better now on your car. Needed something to contrast the silver. Nice job!
