Default New Shoes! So long runflats

Here is what I am ordering today, this is NOT for the horse power junkies but I think a great option for spirited street driving.

Continental Extreme Contact DSW
Front 255/40/17
Weight 23lbs (7lbs lighter)
Tread Width 10.2" (.6in wider)
Dia 25" (.6in shorter)

Rear 295/35/18
Weight 27lbs (7lbs Lighter)
Tread Width 12" (1.2in wider)
Dia 26.1 (.6in Shorter)

These are shorter than stock but way wider and lighter, plus they are a much longer lasting tire and supposedly do well in wet weather. Tons of positive reviews on Tire Rack from C6 users.

Anyone else use these sizes, what did you think?

Any reccommendations on tire kits? Thinking of looking for a Z06 kit to throw in the back.

Considering the same tires myself except with 265 up front. Won't need them until next season though. I have heard they are a good tire for the money.

Don't know a lot about Continental tires, but hope they work well for you. As for a tire repair kit, the Z06 kit would work but usually is pretty expensive. You can always go to a place like Wal-Mart and get a plug kit and small compressor that will do the job.

Run flats suck, or course, unless you have a flat. I plan on removing my run flats very soon.

Most 295/35 tires require a minimum of a 10" rim. I chose 285/35 for the stock size rims in the rear because it is the max you can effectively go (according to the manufacturers). You may be fine with it, but its not a proper tire for the rim... If you haven't ordered yet, consider it.

Had the new tires for about a week. Besides the differences you would expect going from the GY runflats like better/quieter ride these have stopped all of the the tram-lining (always did it with the GY even when new), and the car doesn't feel as disturbed on those "washboard" sections of the road, especially in a turn. Plenty of grip for my taste.

Came out to $1100 including new TPS. Much improved DD duty tires. Now lets see if I can get 50k miles out of 'em.

Default It finally happened

I have had these Continentals for about 30k miles and 3 1/2 years now and they have been great. The wear is fantastic! I am getting a bit of droning now but Hawaii highways are grooved and poorly maintained so there are very few places where I can hear it over the road noise. Grip is still good.

Unfortunately I just had my first flat, picked up a screw in the tread. I was able to fill it and make it home. So I jacked it up to take off the tire and I thought I'd post pics so you could see how these are holding up. These are definitely not high performance tires but are plenty for DD and are great in the rain.

Wow the tread looks almost new. It appears that you will go beyond 50K miles on those tires, for sure.

I had them on my SRT8, they were great. Got my Slime inflator/flat tire kit in Walmart. They claim it will not affect the TPMS if you have to use it.

My regular driver, a Chevy Sonic LTZ turbo Dusk special edition, comes with custom 18" wheels with Conti Extreme Contact DWS tires. I have been extremely satisfied with their performance in all conditions, high speed driving, rain and some snow, too. They also handle very well and are quiet, ride well too. So today I am ordering a set of the DW summer version for my Vette. They meet my needs for a 295/35 and 265/35 combination on 18" wheels f & r. Hoping for the best. My current tires are becoming slicks on the rear and Discount Tire has multiple rebates for the Memorial Day holiday ending today.

You won't be disappointed in the DW's, those are the exact sizes I have.

OP you're in Hawaii, why not the DW's for your car ?

Default Repair

So I took the tire to the repair place and they wanted to put a patch in and then a plug does that make any sense? Seems that they would be poking a hole in the patch inside my tire.

They'll probably cut the plug flush on the inside before installing the patch. Sounds like a good idea to me, if that's what they are intending to do. I have never had a problem just using a plug.
