Default 1999 Tire Questions

Tires need replacement on fronton 99 convertible. Hearing lots of different things.

Dealer recommended replacing current Goodyears with Michelin Pilot Sport PS/2 runflats.

1) How do the Michelins compare to others?

2) Are the run flats neccesary, or what are other options. Are they noisier?

Any other INFO would also be helpful.

Thanks

Everyone has their own opinion on tires, I just replaced the Goodyear runflats with Michelin Pilot sport Plus A/S (non runflat) and I like them. They are quiet and smooth (any non runflat will be quieter and smoother than a runflat) You can also get the Michelin Pilot Sport Plus A/S in runflat form.

The Hankook Ventus V12 seems to be a popular, and cheaper, choice, but there are many others to choose from.

Go to Americas Tire web site and select your car and check out all the options.

And, if it were me, I would replace the tires as a set.

Ditching the run flats is the best mod I(and others) have done. The cars drive completely differently. They are quieter and hold the road so much better you will think you are in a different car! You won't believe it!

I'd swap them out as a set. I put a set of BFG g-Force sport comp 2's on my 99' vert and my bride asked me what I did to the car. It's quieter, smoother, and handles the road much better. If the wife noticed the change, it's a BIG improvement. There's lots of good tires out there for our vettes. Do some research and pick the set that best matches your needs.

If those are the original tires that came on the car, I would just replace all four. I replaced my Goodyear runflats with a new set of Hankook Ventus V12 EVOs and got all four for $656 delivered.

If I ditch the run flats, is there anything ele beside a can of fix-a-flat I should put in the car??

The fronts wore out faster due to mis-alignment (Recently purchased the car). Backs have plenty of life left, so that's why I was leaning on only the front replacement for now.I drive 90% suburban highway, with the rest urban (Live in Vegas). No racing at all. Any other tire recommendations before I buy.

I ditched my goodyear run flats with A set of Falken FK-452's and couldn't be happier. Rides and handles like a new car now.

I carry a small 12V compressor, a can of fix a flat, and a plug kit which fit nicely into the drivers side trunk well. I think the whole kit/compressor cost $19.99 from one of the chain autoparts stores I'd use the fix a flat as a last resort but carry it as a back-up.

AAA membership and a cellphone is all you need to not use runflats my votes for the Nitto NT555's or the Hankook Ventus V12's.
