Default Am I going senile or have I come up eith a good idea?

My wife and I have three vehicles. A caddy DTS, and Silverado, and a low mileage 2001 Vert. The Caddy gets 12 MPG around town, the truck about the same. The C-5 Vert does a LOT better than the other two cars mileage wise, both in town, and on the highway. This is no surprise to any one here.

I found a 100,000 mile 2001 coupe that is in great shape for that many miles. It is fully optioned with memory, HUD remote CD etc. Knowing that the LS1 can easily go 200,000 mile and gets great gas mileage, I'm thinking of buy this for a D/D, golf course etc. The 2001 has all the later (and repairable) electronics etc.

The car could use some new leather, but that's not a terrible expense and I can do that work myself. He's asking $12,500 ('firm').
What do you guys think?

My vote is for SENILE, but that doesn't mean it isn't a good idea.

Being in TN you probably don't see the snow and ice like the northeast, sooo...why not. Works for me.

It is not a bad idea. LS1s seem to be pretty bullet proof. I just don't know if I could have 2 of basically the same car. I just like too many different things. Maybe if I made one a track car...

Wait, is your vert some sort of extremely rare, super-valuable car? Why can't you use it for your errands?

Did that two month ago--bought 01 convert with 145K miles for a DD. Slightly more than twice the gas mileage of my 01 Suburban. I'll be depressed when I have to park it the end of November to end of March because of the snow. There are ongoing minor electrical gremlins (of course, it IS a C5!), but more fun and less expensive to drive than anything else. Paid less than $12k for an immaculate car with all history, new tires and brakes, perfect interior, and all the options including Z51. I'm 65, and won't consider senility.

If all the other cars are paid for how long will it take you to "save" 12,500 in gas? Still would be a fun DD if that is what you want.

The C5 is a great DD providing you can live with the load it can carry.

This is the Corvette Forum, there is no room for financial logic.
FWIW, your logic assumes all behicles are woth $0.00 after purchase. The Corvette historically has deprciated les than Caddys (by a long shot). All my vehicles are well past their initial depreciation bubble, all were purchased for cash as would this one.

I commute 53 miles each way daily. December of 2010 I retired my C5 with 116K and bought a 2008 Acura TL for commuting. I have since joined a vanpool so my drive is only 6 miles each way. I sold the Acura and returned to driving my now 122K mile C5 for my daily. Of course, see signature for what I picked up for a weekend car.
