Default A confession

I'm an old fart (69 next week) but had wanted a Vette since I was ten and the first 53 came off the line. I fulfilled that dream last fall with a pewter 2000 coupe. Now the confession. I find myself sitting down on a lawn chair in the garage and just "looking" at the d*** thing more often that most people would consider "normal." Tell me I'm not alone in this folly.

You are not alone... Just make sure you spend a lot more time driving it, than admiring it!

I'm only 27, but I find myself making excuses to go into the garage. And sometimes when the wife and I are ready to head upstairs for the night I'll take one last peak before bed.

It's an addiction. I find the pride and excitement for car enthusiasts is similar to the excitement building up to a big vacation or something. You want to be around it, you want to talk about it. It's just more than a car to us. It's a feeling, a memory, a spirited drive. Whatever it is, it's linked to that beautiful machine. So, we stare. We admire the body lines and get sentimental about the perfect harmony of the visual and the audible -- the fusion of art and brute machine.

Answer your question, haha.

I think it's a common initial reaction! I bought my vert new in the late summer of 2004. I got some good driving months in, however put it away for the winter. While it was put away, I would go in the garage, remove the cover and just look at it while drinking my coffee every morning.

Even now after moving to Florida and moving my man-cave from the Chicago basement to the Florida garage, I still find myself just hanging in the garage as an excuse to look at it and give it a quick wipe down.

Well Scott, I have pretty much the same problem as you, and I am also an Old fart at 65. I think some of it stems from the long years of wanting such a car and never having one. The young guys will not be able to relate to it in quite this way I suppose, but in the end we all share a fascintaion for this machine. They are correct in recommending driving it more than looking at it though...I try to do so as often as I can.

I am 73 and bought my 2001 whit vert when I turned 70.It's sorta sad that I had to wait so long to get something that I wanted so much.I too open the attached garage and check to make sure it wasn't a dream.Crazy huh,

Thanks guys. I really was beginning to wonder if I had gone over the edge with this car. I've had toys before but none left me feeling the way this thing called Corvette has.

In the evenings my wife and I hang out oustide in the back. My vette is typically parked under my carport in the back when I'm not driving it or cleaning it etc. then it goes to the garage.

Well it was in the garage last week so I told her I think I'll just hang out in the garage tonight.

She said of course you are, the vette is in the garage, and I know you have to look at the thing every night.

So yes, I never get tired of spending time with it. I find myself rolling down the windows, turning on the stereo, and wiping it down while I have a cold beverage.

But I've been that way with all of my nice cars through the years.

Here is my story:

I bought an 03 Z06 brand new.

I brought it home and my gf asked me if that was the last I was gonna see of her for the weekend.

I asked her,"Why?"

She says,"I had crazy sex plans" (I think she was just testing).

So.........

I didn't see the car for two days, got all my meals served to me in bed, and I didn't regret getting my priorities straightened out, so to speak.

Car was still there on Monday.

At 69 except for the meals in bed, the mind is willing but the body? Not so much, sigh!

Don't worry. You are not alone. Not only do I stare at it, but always try to park where I can look back at it.

Still love the looks of the C5's.

Close, but no cigar, the couch is facing away from the Vette.

Yeah we pretty much all spend time doing that especially when we first get it.

I have had mine since the end of May, and more often than not, my wife opens the garage door up to tell me good night.....

You are definitely not alone. Though I drive mine often, I catch myself glaring at the reflection of my car on windows of buildings and even on other cars. When I park it, I will always give it one or two glances as I depart.

I always turn to look at the sexy a$$ on these cars as I walk away from it. Its an incredibly well designed body. Its normal to over it.
