Default Discolored drivers side mirror

I have noticed that the drivers side rear view mirror on my '04 has started turning yellowish, like it is dark tinted. What's going on with this? And what do i need to do to fix.

Heated Mirrors have a fluid in them - that when the glass fails (cracks or something) the fluid slowly settles to the bottom of the glass ... and looks discolored.

It did it on my Chevy truck anyway ... swap out the glass only, not the entire mirror - the glass just pops right off - so I've read here

or maybe some thing else (?) auto dim failure (?) with a similar effect

what you have is an electro chromatatic mirror that is actually several layers with fluid in between. unfortunately they fail after time. a replacement mirror glass is available from places like gmpartshouse, etc. it's not that hard to replace (I know because I had to replace the one on my 04 about a year ago.) some who don't want to have it happen again will replace the glass with a regular non electro chromatic glass.

Vette magazine did a step by step on replacing these maybe a year ago. Their website may still have something on it. Looked real easy.

I have the same problem with my '02. I called the dealer and they want $300 for the replacement glass. I see the glass on gmpartshouse are only $80 or so. But, I'm guessing this is the non-dimming glass, correct? I didn't see a second glass for the drivers side that would be electro chromatic.. Also, is the drivers side the right or left glass on thier webiste? Still unsure if the dimming is worth the $200...

This must be occurring more often as a result of the age of our cars. There was another post yesterday about this same issue. A new unheated non-monochromatic replacement mirror glass can be had from www.hubcapsplus.com for twenty bucks:
