How long did you wait for your first Corvette, and why?

I had the "pleasure" of driving the first Vette in my city when I was 16 yo. It came in while I was in hs and a family friend, who worked at the dealership accrossed the street from the high school, allowed me to take a test drive. WHAT A SLUG. Could not hardly get it out of its own way.
That spoiled me for MANY years. A freind had a 1959 and let me drive it, kinda liked it and later another friend had a 69 427 that really turned me on. But, i had a family at that time, so in 1984 I bought my 1st Vette for my 45th birthday. 1984 Z51 with ALL the options. I still have it and a couple of years ago I took it to NCRS and got a Top Flight.
107K miles and still original. We have a 03 AE and a 1996 GS also...kinda like them..LOL
Why could they have not started out with a V8 ?????????????????

When I was 16, my good friend bought a 69 L88 that I had the opportunity to drive quite often. I was hooked but didn't have the extra money for 40 years. Never again will I not own one.

wife, kids, house, finances, always loved them never could afford one until I was 42 and the timming wasnt perfect but oppertunity came knocking and I dove in head first and bought a 1992, I had it as a daily driver had it it for a year and a half wrecked it spinning out in a puddle sold it and waited patiently for five years and it was worth the wait because I now have a 2000 coupe silver and black

True, I've always been advanced for my age.
Actually, I was 23 when I bought my first Vette, brand new (left over). It was great to be 23, with a new Vette, a great job and single, ....near the beach. Life is good!

I had wanted one since the early 60s - finally got one in 1984. So about 20-24 years.

26 years I guess. I never thougt about getting one, but a friend ( in his late fifties) came over in his to watch the super bowl. I jokingly asked if he was selling it, and he said "sure, I want a c6". Couple weeks later it was mine, and now its tough to drive any other car!!

When I was in high school the dream began and in my late 20's I was able to buy my first Corvette. It was '67 that was eight years old, and you never forget your first one. My second was my 1980 C3 that I bought new and still have, and my third was my 1998 C5. I don't still have my 98, but still have my 03.

At 24 years old bought a new 1984 Corvette. Sold 1984 couple of years later and had kids. Kids are out of collage and bought a low milage 1998 vert last year at 50 years old.

Waited too long for sure. I just got my first one several months ago. Even though I have had (still have one of them) two 67 Camaros, I have always been a Vette guy at heart. Now that I have one, I can say that my instincts on Vettes was spot on.

#7 - Inherited it - well kind of...
My first turn-on to a Vette was when I was 16. Saw a new '80 C3 while delivering newspapers. Yellow, polished aluminum wheels - that was one hot car! I knew I would have one of those one day. My mom died about 6 years ago so I used half of the small inheritance to pay down the mortgage and then bought an '88 C4 vert with part of what was left. Why a C4 and not the C3 I've always wanted? The C4 was a lot cheaper than the C3s at the time - still are! The wife was not impressed....! Anyways.... divorced now... the gf loves the C4 & C5!
I WILL have a late model yellow C3 at some point!

I got my first Corvette in 2000 at the age of 42. Couldn't afford one prior to that but since then I've had three others. I don't think my current one (2003 coupe)will be my last either I'm hoping to get a C6 in the next year or two.

I always liked vettes but I also always needed a back seat so a vette was not practical for me. Being in the military and moving having 2 cars was a headache. So most of us lifers always had a nice car and if we needed 2 cars we would buy a beater for use while we were at our current duty station then sell it or practically give it away to next soldier who needed a beater.
I retired in 97 and moved back to Missouri and established myself, ie job, house, all the things one needs to care for small acreage, ie tractor pick up yaddy yadda.
Then I was looking for another Harley as I hadn't had one for years. When my wife informed me she would not get on one I started looking for another Camaro, or Muscle car of some type to play around with. My search led me my 90 C4. That was about 5 years ago.
So I suppose you could say I waited 49 years but like I said a vette wasn't really in the picture.
I've had about all of the popular cars through my life. Z28's, Chevelle's, Roadrunner, Cougar's. Trans Am, BMW etc. So it was more of an evolution.
I no longer need a back seat and if I do I hop in the STS, Camry or Pick Up.

I do recall lusting after a 63 split window when I was 14. It was at a local dealer and I stopped everyday after school to stare and gawk at it. I said one day I will have one of these.
Well IMO my FRC is about as close as one can get for the money spent. I will always keep my FRC. Most all the cars I've had are extremely rare. I didn't realize it at the time and I let them all get away from me. I promised myself I will never make that mistake again. But one day I do hope to add a C6.

From earliest memories (10 or 11 yrs old)I have loved Corvettes, being born and living on the other side of the world, there weren't many vette actually driving around...
The usual life happenings marriage, kids, mortgage, kids expenses, divorce, relocating half way around the world, then starting from scratch to rebuild, second marriage, kids in college, then when I was 47, I was in a position to buy my C5, am not sure who was more excited, my lovely wife or me, was a 'watershed' moment in my life when I wrote the check and drove off in my Corvette!!!!
A life dream come true after 36/37 years

Got hooked watching a '62 drive by my house when I was a kid. Got to drive a C5 test vehicle that a GM engineer brought to my house about the year 2000. Once the kids were done with college I bought my 2001 in 2010.

I was a gear head pretty much from the cradle as my mom's dad owned an auto parts store in Chillicothe (SP?), Texas while she was growing up so she was an enthusiast (her dream car was a Pantera). Real old time stuff!! Small time auto parts store (the only one in town), with unfinished hard wood floors and old-timers sittin' around smokin' hand-rolled ciggarettes talking about what they were doing to their tractors and their hot rods!!! I constantly spent my allowance on car models that I would build (Mom always knew at least a few things to get me for Christmas, i.e. the models I couldn't afford with my allowance!!)
In 1968, we were in Naples, Italy as my step-dad had a three year assignment there with McDonnell-Douglas Aircraft. I was 13 yrs. old and going into 7th grade. We were on base one day and I saw the most amazing car I had ever seen and asked Mom, "Wow, what is that?!" She said, "That's a Corvette and you can have one when you can do three things! Have enough money to buy it, insure it, and prepay your funeral 'cause it will probably put you in the ground!!!"
It was a brand new '68 medium blue metallic coupe, and from there, it was on!!
It was a long time as by the time I was making anything over minimum wage, I was a factory trained Harley mechanic and got into bikes for a lot of years.
Had paid the cash money for a brand new Candy Purple Fat Boy in '89 when the dealer I worked for pulled a seriously sh!tty stunt on me (told me my paid in full bike was going to have to sit on the showroom floor for a month or two of spring so that people could look at, sit on and possibly test-ride it, before it could be delivered!!!!) so I told him "Fu%# you!!!!", pulled my money, quit the shop and went and bought my first 'Vette; a white '84 coupe with the gray interior. It was cool and I really liked it and was glad that I had finally quit waiting for one, but it was seriously underpowered for what I thought a 'Vette should be! I traded it a few months later for a '91 black on black six speed coupe that was every bit as fast as a 'Vette should be!!!!!!
From there, it was on like Donkey Kong!!!!!!
Five now and counting!!!!

Edit: Technically that's 21 years, but I wasn't legal to drive for another three years after seeing and falling in love with the first 'Vette I ever saw!!!
