Default true spare tire alternative for C5 Z06 ?

I found an OEM spare tire kit for 2010-2012 Camaros. Small steel rim with a 155x70-18" tire.

I used a tire conversion chart to compare the spare tire's diameter with the front and rear tires on my 2003 Z06.

The diameter of the spare is 26.6". The front OEM (265x40-17) diameter is 25.4", and the rear OEM (295x35-18) diameter is 26.1".

Can I use the Camaro spare at the front AND rear of the Corvette if I use the correct offset spacer for each application? I think the front dimensions are almost irrelevant because the front wheels are independent; and the rear dimensions are only lacking half an inch (.5")... isn't that close enough to run on the same axle ? Does that make sense?

Can someone tell me what the offset should be for the front and back, or point me in the right direction so I can research for the answer?

It'd be worth it to me to pay for the spare. I do a lot of cross-country driving, and West Texas is pretty desolate. A run flat wouldn't have helped me with my last blow-out... the RR tire got skewered with a 5" bolt. Fortunately, I was in a car with a spare tire.

Thank you.

Some guys use the GTO spare. I don't know how they compare to the stock tire sizes though.

I've always wondered about a spare tire option as well

We are in the same situation as the roads in Arizona are just as desolate and many places a cell phone will not work.

I called Tire Rack and asked them what would clear the front and rear brake calipers/fit on a C5 and asked them to mount a 225-55-18 ( I would have to look and see if that is the size but from memory ...). In any case, the size I picked is 26.3 and i will let a little air out of it. Wheel was on sale ,total cost was about $160 amd I carry 2 scissor jacks one to be placed near the good tire and then I lift it enough to put the 2nd jack near the flat tire after I get the needed clearance. The only problem is that on my convertible when the top is down there is not enough room for the spare but it is OK with the top up. It will fit fine in a Z06 or a coupe. It actually came out to cost less then a GTO spare/

Skeet,

Thanks! Where did you get the wheel? I'll press my luck a little--do you remember the part number for the wheel?

I just got off a Chatline with Tire Rack. They said they didn't have a wheel that would fit my needs and wouldn't recommend running an off-sized 'spare'. That won't fly; I'll find the right combo sooner or later. I used a conversion chart and I think the wheel size is 225x45-18, yes? It's got a diameter of 25.9" --.2" smaller than OEM rear and .2" larger than OEM front.

Believe this--your advice is a great comfort. I dread crossing TX, NM, AZ, and that desolate part of CA near the Mojave in a Corvette.

Dork When I ordered my Tire Rack wheel about 5 or 6 months ago I think that was the last wheel they had but if I recall they had another style available. If they said they had no other C5 wheels I would try Discount Tire or Warehousewheels.com.

I would think that the non Z06 front factory c5 wheel would work because my non-factory wheel is 8 1/2"x18" and the same size tire would also work.

Do you have a coupe in which case any proper wheel/tire will fit unlike my convertible.

I currently have my convertible covered and the battery disconnected but in a day or two I will be running it and will PM you to confirm the tire size and wheel part number.

Again, curious if you have a Z06, convert. or coupe?

And yes it is a great security when you are in the middle of nowhere and have NO cell phone coverage. The only real problem is that I will not get the flat rear tire in my trunk though maybe I will have to just keep the trunk opened or else leave the flat wheel/tire by the side of the road.
