Default To all the Pace Car Haters

I have had more comments from people about the 98 Pace Car (All good by the way) then I ever had in the past. I would get comments when I drove the 70 454 Corvette around, and a few people will say nice car when I'm out with the 74 convertible.

A lot of people who don't live and breathe Corvettes had never seen one. When I stopped at CVS today a woman, and her daughter walked up to my car. The Mother said: "Excuse me Sir is that a race car?" I replied no its just a corvette. "Just a corvette"? That Sir is the best looking corvette we have ever seen. They asked a lot of questions.

I didn't pay anymore then I would've paid for a run of the mill 98 Navy Blue Corvette.

No need to worry about what other folks say, it's yours!!! Enjoy & be proud of it!

I personally like them & think they will be rare down the line.

On your '98, isn't the date of the race May 28, 1998?

The reason I ask is that is my birthday and there have been afew times that the 500 was actually run on my birthday which makes them my favorite Pace Cars. It is always run, obviously, around that day but I can't remember if it was the purple C4 pace car or the purple C5 pace car that was from a year on the 28th.

Doesn't matter other than I have always liked the pace car editions, the proximity to my birthday and that purple is my favorite color. I know, its kinda goofy but oh, well. The second best color ever on a 'Vette I think, was the Black Rose on C4's.

I'm sure it probably doesn't matter to anyone but me, however, 'nother major Pace Car fan here!!!!!

I bought mine because I like it. I knew there would be haters and so be it. Honestly though, the only haters have been online here. Like the OP, there's only been positive remarks - even when I had the 'Screaming Chicken' on my doors!
But if I ever need an ago boost, I just drive down my gf's street.... all the little East Indian kids LOVE the car!

I must admit I was not a fan when they first came out but they have grown on me over the years. They are different and very cool.

I came incredibly close to buying a '98 Pace Car back in Dec 00 but ultimately bought a '00 pewter coupe instead. The Pace Car has such a bold look that really gets noticed. I don't regret buying the pewter car (I did keep it for 7.5 years), but I wish I had been able to buy both.

There were a couple of comments recently (I'm not going to post the thread) where some things were expressed with ... passion!

Always liked them just never cared for the yellow wheels which is easy to eliminate without devaluing the car. I see you did just that. Must not get rid of the original wheels though.

My last Fiero was an '84 Pace Car clone built from an '85GT with a Caddy 4.9V8. I went from thinking it was cool to thinking it was dorky many times. The question "Is a real pace car?" grated on me at times. Sure lady, I just got back from Indianapolis, stole it from the museum, sheesh. Kids loved it though, all in all a good experience, if you like it, keep it, I'd still have it if I hadn't stepped up to a Vette.

I just can't stand the yellow wheels. Or seats. Coming from someone who owns a Mellinium Yellow corvette.

I saw another guy on this forum with chrome thinspokes on his Pace Car and I really liked it. Or maybe with black wheels.

Also, something to think about, 99% of people who think "Man, those yellow wheels look funny" aren't going to come up and say it to your face. On ebay or craigslist you'll see all sorts of stupid looking modded cars and the owner will say "Attention getter! People say all sorts of awesome things about it around town!"

Any car which looks out of the ordinary will get comments. Hell, throw some black wheels and racing stripes on a stock Z06 and you'll get 10X more comments than a bone stock car.

Not trying to rain on your parade, I like Pace cars and the concept, but the c5 pace car scheme is just not for me.

At the Raleigh Vintage Auto Auction two weeks ago they had a very nice 1953 Ford convertable. Sold for $44,500. Why so high? Well, it seems it said on the side that is was an Indy 500 pace car. Not THEE pace car, but one of the many that were turned out in 53 by Ford. Seems that there were more "Likers" than "Haters" when it came to driving the price up. Indy pace cars bring money after a while.

I don't have anything against purple cars! Fact is that I had a purple 48 Chevy coupe for quite a while.
