Really? I hate to be negative, but like someone said earlier that there would be lots of opinions and as you know opinions are like a-holes, everyone has one. But the bottom line is - if you want a C5, search for the best that you can find regarding maintenance, condition, mileage, and things that you want like color, manual or automatic, etc. What do you want? Then put your negotiator's hat on and make a deal. Enjoy the search, the negotiations, and your purchase. It's your buy, your money, your enjoyment. At the risk of being jumped on, I trust you didn't ask anyone if the gal you picked for your wife/partner/honey was up to par with your acquaintances?

Let me change your thought process just a little bit.....
Unless you find a very early FRC almost every Corvette produced was shipped with almost every "factory option". It just happened, you do know all Corvette owners are made of money right?
What you should be asking is "What option should YOU not compromise on?"
Too many folks on here telling us they wanted a 6spd and settled for an A4 (or Vise Versa) and regretted it ever since.
((If you choose an A4 I would definitely say a deal breaker would be the 3.15 performance rear axle though))
If you have a color in mind, same problem, make a list of colors you like and DO NOT settle for a color that isn't already on your list.
Coupe, Vert, Z06----- List them in order of preference and give them a "decision weight factor"
BE PATIENT and good luck. The car YOU WANT is absolutely out there waiting for you to show up and drive it home.

In hindsight, I would not accept the 2:73 rear. aside from that, any option or lack of is ok with me.
I have an automatic and prefer it, but I would absolutely own a standard. I just sit in too much traffic for it to be enjoyable.

No verts... autos.. and the digital climate control.
i like rowing gears and the digital climate control is just something to go wrong and fix later on down the road.

Their is only one true deal breaker on a 2000 C5 and I cant believe no one said it are you ready for it

If this goes out you cant find one you will have one hell of a paper weight in your Garage as GM does not make them and no one fixes them I dread the day mine goes out.

I would not buy a C5 with:
-2.73 gears (unless I budgeted/planned for a 3.42 swap down the road)
- Selective ride suspension (the shocks are super expensive to replace); optimum suspension pkg is the Z51
- Without HUD (head-up display); There are so many C5's with this option, why get one without? It is a really nice feature IMO.
Those would be my deal-breakers. Figure out what your priorities are, and then go from there.

I really wish I would have known about this part before I bought my 00. Granted it has never given me any problems and may never but I hate the fact that if it does I wont be able to fix it.

who cares. i bought the car due to price and it had some mods I wanted.
Mine is an auto. with a crap ton under the hood. So it will kill any 6 speed (obviously within reason). Also, it has 3.42 rear end. Although I may swap in a 6 speed next year. who knows.
Mine had sport seats with memory package. The seats suck. I now have Sparco Evo2 Plus with non power sliders.
Mine had the F45 Suspension. Those were blown. I wouldnt even probably use it anyways. Now I have C6 ZO6 shocks.
Mine has Dual Climate control. But I dont drive the car in winter, and when i do drive it in the summer, i have the windows open! So I dont use the A/C.

For me, the car would have to have active handling, HUD and sports seats. I would not want one with the 2.73 rear gears in it.

When i searched for my car I wanted an 02-04 z06 with low miles in either red silver or black and in good condition. Aside from that I didn't really care what options it had. My dd is a cavalier and has pretty much 0 modern conveniences so i had never really thought about luxuries like hud and memory. Now that i have my z06 which has hud and memory I would say the hud is a feature I like. The memory is no longer functional on my car and i don't really care. I never used it when it was functional. For a z06, there aren't many other options. Mod red interior is the only one I can think of which is another take it or leave option for me.

for me options i wouldnt want to be without:
6 speed Tranny
z06 or frc
HUD
Options I couldnt stand it to have:
Red Interior - never understood this one I always thought it has made the interior look really cheap even on the old ones. I have black but personally prefer tan leather. just was something i was willing to compromise on.

Of course, the biggest decision is coupe vs. convertible.
Either you are a convertible person or you are not.
Don't buy a vert unless you want the top down all the time.
