Default Cruise, active handling and trac control?

I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas for me, driving to the dells today and my cruise would disengage on its own after about 3-10 minutes. Also got service active handling soon message and traction control light twice. If I shut car off and restart they would work again for 30 minutes or so.

Does this sound like some kind of vacuum problem or am I way off base thinking old school? Car is a 2001 vert with 63K on it

Sounds like the Steering Wheel Position Sensor is going out. Can you post the codes from your DIC?

This would be correct. I've had the same problem and took it to the dealer. In my small town it will cost about 500 and change. If you turn of traction control the cruise will work but you still will get the DIC warnings.

Default Cruise Control Problem

Had same problem. Went to a Carburator/Electric Repair Garage and they
came to the same conclusion. Replaced the SWPS at the end of the steering column. Total cost was $215, and the 2004 Vette handled like a new car. Found out some other GM autos and Trucks have this same SWPS. Its been over one year and still handles like new, wish I had done this sooner.

I had the same thing on my 2001. Village Chev fixed it for me. It was the positioning deal with the steering wheel. Expensive. Good Luck

ok got home yesterday, thanks for the tip on turning off traction control allowing cruise to work. that came in handy on the 6 hr drive.
i ran my codes this morning and under 28-tcs i have a c1287 which is steering sensor rate malfunction so it looks like you guys know what you are talking about as always and i will get the steering wheel position sensor replaced. thanks again.

They cost about $65.00 at www.gmpartshouse.com. Takes about 2.5 to 3 hours to replace. Had to replace mine last year on my 04. Be carefull with the airbag and do not turn the wheel once disconnected.

No pics, but it is at the bottom of the steering column right before the firewall.
