Should C5 owners have to hang there heads
Should all of us C5 owners have to hang our heads in shame because our Vettes are not ZO6'S, C6'S, ZR1'S Grandsports or ZL1'S. After a couple of years the hp was raised and soon base cars had LS2 engines and then 3's plus all the other cars with the specialty engines. When you pick up a magazine and an article is on a Corvette it is not a C5 and I have heard oh it's just a C5.
I bought my first Corvette over forty years ago, a red 63 convertible and it was special, it was a Corvette. It was a 327 ci.300 hp, my next one was a 63 split window coupe with fuel injection. You could get Corvettes after 1962 in five or six different hp ratings but no one looked down on a lower hp car ever. Then came big blocks with two different hp ratings plus all of the different ratings.
By now you get the jest of what I am saying so if you have a great C5 lets hear about what makes it great because times are no different than thirty years ago when I had a mint 67 big block convertible that I gave $1,400.00 for and thought I had too much in it because no one wanted one of those big engines.

Hang our heads in shame?
If they get an LS7, just go get you an LS7, modify it and meet them head on
I don't need no stinkin' C6 to be happy - If I was given one that would be nice, but I don't need, need one.

2023 C5 of the Year Finalist - Unmodified
I have a car which is probably worth only about £12000 ($20k) but it turns heads and raises comments every time I drive it.
I've never even considered hanging my head in shame.
This is a great sports car.

What?! No...
First off, I have a stock-ish Z06 and it's not as fast as a C6Z, but I'm a better driver than just about every guy I've met with a C6Z, so that's what matters to me.
As for the base and vert, my dad LOVES his 03 Vert. It's stock with a good tune from CMS and pulls hard with over 80K miles on it. It made 309HP to the ground bone stock on a dyno that reads low. All things considering, he has nothing to hang his head in shame for. It's still fast and still faster than most cars on the road. It's just not faster than cars 10 years newer than it. He could put a blower on it if he really cared that much.
(Actually, he's mentioned that he was thinking about a blower.)

Hang our heads in shame how dare you. I have a bone stock 03 vert (K&N air filter) and I am so blessed, so happy and so proud just to say this car is all mine and I love it. I don't ever need anything else in life, I have a great wife, great family, house is all paid for, Harley Davidson in the garage and just retired last year. All my dreams have come true now. Life is good.

I like the rugged feel of the c5, My friend has a C5z and his feels faster even with 200 less HP (we both are modded) I think if you enjoy your car that's all that matters. Another thing to consider is that if someone only likes a C6 because its new then they will have a rude awakening when the C7 arrives.

I get compliments everywhere I take the car - and while it may not be as fast as a lot of other cars these days (Corvettes or non-Corvettes), it still will sit me back in the seat, handles great, gets very good gas mileage, and has a classic design. I see absolutely no reason to hang my head in shame over owning a C5 - plus it is paid for.

Shame, are u NUTS!
I don't EVER remember anyone looking at my C5 and saying....Shame you didn't get a C6. Or how do you feel about having so much horsepower and a custom Corvette that people LOVE to see and ride in, wouldn't you rather they get that excited about a C6Z?
Don't ever mistake ones desire or want of a newer Vette as one of being shamed they "ONLY" have a C5.
But I can only speak for myself......Maybe there are some that are ashamed they only have a C5....but I bet they aren't here, by the very nature of participating on this C5 forum.

No, most people don't know what year the C5 is by looking at it. Personally I drive what I like not what others like.
Corvettes never go out of style IMO.
