I like the styling of the C5Z better myself, it's unique and thus the reason I went with a FRC. I chose the FRC over the Z06 simply due to production numbers which makes it even more unique than even a Z06. But I admit there are times I wish I would have went with the Z06. But I'm happy.

But if I had this decision to make I also admit it would be a difficult decision and hard not to lean to a C6 for reasons mentioned earlier. I am just not a fan of a hatchback on any car.

C5Z..for 30K you can get a really nice low mileage car..and with the 7k to 8k left over add some really nice mods..that will put you close to performance levels of the C6Z

Either the C5 Z06 or an 08 and newer C6 (LS3 platform). I would not get the 05-07 C6's personally. I also think the FRC look is better looking and much more rare (Only going to become more and more rare as time goes on). The FRC's are also stiffer and lighter weight, making them better platforms for racing. Ultimately I vote Z06. It'll be cheaper than an 08 or newer C6 and it will ALWAYS be a Z06.

For those of us who appreciate that you make a good point. A few folks like to rag on the C4, for whatever reason, they take notice when a ZR1 C4 rolls up.

Agreed. That was a big factor in my decision. I was looking at late model C5 ZO6s, and LS3 base C6s, and the price difference is huge. I paid 30K for my CE 04 ZO6, stock, in mint condition, with 2800 miles. The same mileage / conditioned LS3 C6 would at the least, command high 30s.

Not to mention it seems like I see tons of base C6s on the road, a nice clean C5 ZO6 is something I don't see often, at least where I live.

When I began my quest for a Corvette last fall, did lots of reading, mostly here, then I drove my friend's '07 C6 vert and loved it. Joined my club, attended the first meeting and a fellow member announced he was selling his '02 C5Z with 16k miles for $26000. In my mind I thought "Ok, I'll ask him to see/drive it, but a Z is too much car for me!)

Drove it and loved everything about it. Next day went to drive another nice C5 known by the club, but it was sold 15 min. earlier. Salesman offered a drive in a base C6. Did not like it. Went home, called the p/o of what is now my car and we made a deal for $24k, and I've never looked back...(except for those in the mirror). I cannot describe what a sweet car it is to live with.
For your budget, you have the C5 world at your fingertips.

Save some more money and buy a C-6. I love our C-5 but parts availability is going to bite me in the long run. I think a base C-6 will still be a blast. It will still be a Corvette and that's not too shaby is it?

Go with a C5 Z06...The plain C6 is bland and you can't get the good looking Grand Sport/Z06 C6 for $30k..

that's a good point. I wouldn't get a C6 unless it was a GS or higher. The C6 needs the flared fenders.

This was my delemma last year when I sold my 96 CE vert. My funds were in the range of a low milage C5Z or a C6. I purchased a 04 Z06 Z16 (CE) with 7,200 miles from a private owner. For me it was the right decision, I just love this car!

I was in this same boat last year.

Both have their advantages and disadvantages. I personally like the looks of the C5 Z's more and like driving them more. It feels like a race car.

The C6's have a nicer quality interior though, but the base C6's just look soo plain to me. C6 Z's... However, look amazing.

Test drive them both. I liked the C5 Z a lot more. Way more fun to drive IMHO.

I was in the same position you are in. I ended up picking up a low milage '03 Z06 last weekend and I couldn't be happier.

Even if you dont get fully loaded C6 but find one thats not base then thats what id get. Then from there add mods to the C6. To have all the newer generation parts on the C6 compared to the C5 is now worth it my opinion. Your thinking about buying a car 10 years old with older technology. Technology is key and the C6 has it hands down. There both beautiful cars but modding up C6 compared to modding a C5 me personally would go with a C6. An thats coming from a guy that has 2 C5's. Ill never get rid of my C5's but my next purchase will def be a C6.
Again this is my 2 cents...
