Seeking front plate advise
Hi All,
After all these years I will soon be mounting the front license plate on my car. I'm looking for the most viable aesthetic solution and would greatly appreciate some advice.
Thanks, BJ

My State requires it, so I purchased a flip up type. I temporarily mounted it in the stock location and don't mind the look actually so I think it will stay there...When the flip up is visable it looks kind of goofy imo, but you can hide it for shows.

I have a painted license plate surround on my car since I have to run both plates. Here's a pic:
The Stow and Go license plate holder is a pretty good option and I've been considering one of those for my car.

I am so glad I live in a state that doesn't have front plates.

I've tried all the options on the front plate as I have to run a plate in England. I would have a ticket within hours otherwise.
The color coded surround looks OK although its still a front plate. The retractable looks better when its stowed but worse than a fixed plate when its out IMHO. At least for a show you can tuck it away. Its impossible to get the plate to retract enough to be invisible. You can still see it even when its tucked away. Take a look at the pics
I got the manual plate without realizing there was an electrical option. I think I'd have gone for a switch if I'd known.
I've also tried the clear cover but again it doesnt look quite finished to me.

I don't have the plate surround. I just have the plate in place of the cover.
I don't particularly like the look of the surround. Or the cover for that matter. I think it looks cheesy - everyone knows its a corvette, don't need the name there to remind us. Plus since it isn't blended with the bumper, it seems out of place to me, like there should be a license plate there.
But I think I'm probably the only corvette driver with these opinions.

i cant believe that people would rather pay a fine than put a stupid plate on their car. its not like you can see the plate while you are driving. are you worried that someone coming straight at you wont know its a corvette?

I initially had a clear cover and painted a border on the inside. The only draw back was it collected moisture during rain and washes
I finally decided to remove it and go with 3/4 surround

I used the Mid America Motorworks clear cover, 600-698 and painted the perimeter of the cover car color with clear coat.
Be sure to mask the underside of the cover also as overspray will bounce up underneath when painting.

In my state (Illinois) we are required to run front/back plates. ive tried the clear license cover and trust me... you can do without it. It scratches easily, yellows, get cloudy, moisture collects too easily, looks cheesy after a couple years. I thought about the hideaway plate also, but like my friend from England stated, it looks out of place when its out and when its stowed, you can still see it, and if you pull up too close to a parking stop, high curb, its trashed. The surround also looks cheesy in my opinion also. I just removed the center insert, installed the plate, and be done with it. Besides LEO on the lookout here because its a revenue builder. Actually theyre enforcing a law here thats been on the books for decades. Just dont need/want the hassle.

I did the trick smoothie cover and velcro mod to cover my front lic. plate. It's covered when I'm driving, and in 14 yrs. it's never been an issue. I have the plate mounted just in case though! I figure I'd just tell a LEO that I'd just been to a car show and forgot to remove the cover for the ride home!!
