The first pic doesn't really show a good picture of the straps, but I'll bet the straps were not really strong enough and that the car wasn't tied down properly. The D-rings in the trailer are probably rated for 5000lb max.

And towing with that Town Car is a really stupid idea. The car is simply not capable of towing that weight (I'm guessing the car and trailer were somewhere around 5600-5800 lbs) . I also wonder if the car has a trailer brake controller? Towing a trailer that weighs over 2000 total gross requires trailer brakes. Most car trailers use electric brakes.

He got very lucky. The car could have veered into another lane and hit another car or the trailer could have swayed around as the '66 dropped off and could have caused the driver to lose control.

Lucky. And stupid.

Talk about luck!! Being near San Antonio, I'm surprised that some fool in a Dodge truck didn't try to race it when it came off the trailer.

That is one that will be hard to top !
Have to pass that on to a friend who lost his Big Enclosed brand new Trailer with his high dollar 63 vette ProMod in it !
Trailer damaged pretty good but car had only minor damage .
Happened near Houston ! Defective Hitch I think !

He was indeed lucky. I'm sure if you look below the front and rear bumpers, the panels must be trashed as well as the undercarriage. Nonetheless, it could have been a zillion times worse along with human casualties.

"Pucker factor"....10/10
My first thought. On a much smaller scale I had something similar with my targa top. Came off at 55 mph(please don't ask why) rose to about 10 feet did a slow bank to the right to a perfect landing off the right shoulder. Very minor scratches on the bottom of the frame which are covered when properly installed.

If he was really pulling that trailer with car @70 mph, that's pure insanity. There's so much that can go wrong even with the car strapped properly.

i dont see why so many people are calling this luck. if anything it should be bad luck. the luckiest thing that could have happened would be if it didnt come off the trailer at all. def a close call and im glad the car is ok!!

I hard to believe the Vette even stayed on the trailer long at all looking at those shoe string straps.
It appears like he was using something like motorcycle straps.
Looks like a nice trailer but forgot to invest in the correct straps.

Not only is he lucky as are the people that were on the other side of the freeway. It very well could have gone the other way and caused multiple fatalities.

Maybe not on the outside. Dropping off a trailer at 70mph is not a good thing for suspension and frame

But seriously... This really does just go to show what the power of God can do. Glad the car wasn't hurt, and more importantly, glad that no one else was hurt.
Yep..that's not a Lincoln Continental...it's a Town Car.
