Getting a C5Z tomorrow, insurance shock!
So I added the 2002 z06 to my policy, I went from $60 and change to $140 and change a month! This is a 10 year old car, I am 33 no accidents since my teanage years good credit, above 750 closer to 800 on all 3 agencys, no traffic violations in the last 3 years. I live in the country, does this sound correct? When I asked my agent she went on about the z06 being super high preformace and she tried several other companies and assured me that this was a good rate!?! I would like to see what the folks of this forum think about that, even my Progressive quick quoted was like 112 a month.
Turns out it's $1313 per year or 657 per 6 months and that covers my two other cars, one full one collision. But keep the info rolling I would love to find a way to save some money.

You gotta pay to play. I didn't feel like payin 2k on a Z06 so I went with a non Z06. Not worth it for me.
If it makes you feel any better, I don't live in a high risk neighborhood (I.E, Detroit) my driving record is clean, I am 31. I think it largely depends on where you live.
I am paying around 1150/year on a 2004 NON Z06.
They quoted 2000/year on a 2004 Z06.
or you could get a quote from a cutthroat insurance company and go cheap, but when you wreck it, good luck.... as with anything, you get what you pay for.

If that’s the case then so be it, one of the things that attracted me to the vette was the lower insurance rates, as compared to a hot hatches like a mitsu evo or subi STi.
Thanks for the opinion!

You didn't consider insurance into the equation initially?
Before you sign with your insurance company, contact Adam Baca of the National Corvette Museum. He represents their insurance division. He's a member of this forum. All of the profits from their insurance division go back into the NCM.
http://www.ncminsurance.com/
Get a quote from Adam for an Agreed Cash Value policy. That means you know up front what you would receive if your car was stolen or totaled in a collision. You should find that the NCM policy will significantly reduce your annual costs to insure your Z06. You do have to abide by their rules, however.
For what it's worth, we had our Z16 insured with USAA for several years. I called them for a quote before I even bought my car. No other insurance agency could come close to their premiums.
We were very surprised with the quote from Adam.

to address your 1st question I 1st considered a hot hatch and realized that the insurance was too damn high, then got a base vette quoted andd was pleased, saw a simialr thing happen when a friend of mine when her tradded his STi in on a viper.

Do yourself a favor and shop around. I have an 02 non Z06 and pay 1100.00 a year with State farm, full glass, 1000.00 deductable. Your rate at 1680.00 per year doesnt sound too off, but I bet you can shave a couple of hundred or more off that if you do some shopping. Your age, credit and driving history should land you a good deal. Good luck bro!

I agree with shopping around. I'm a lot older than you (57) but the insurance on my '03 coupe with $500 collision deductible is $350/year. Many insurance companies do classify the Z06 at a much higher rate than the coupe/vert.

Thanks for all the help, this forum kicks ***. My insurance agent came back and explained that it would be $1313 a year and because I added the Z mid policy it jacked the rates up for a few months. Keep in mind this covers my beater truck 96 f150 4x4 (just collision), my daily the 06 Scion XB (full coverage) and my Z pleasure (full coverage) all with a zero deductable. So it's not as bad as I thought, Thanks for the help/suggestions and personal policy quotes!

I pay just about $650 per 6 months with Geico on a 2002 Z06. Full Coverage, comprehensive and collision, only a $500 deductible and I have roadside/rental.
It went up about $40 per 6 months from my 2000 Trans Am. I'm 24 years old, no accidents or tickets in the past five years. I think you need to shop around.
