That must be one cunningly-hidden spare..cause I'm very sure C5s didn't come with spares.

The one on the right looks like the Cadillacs..

No need to fear, that'll be rebuilt and back on the lot of a chevy dealership that "charges a fee" for carfax in three weeks. I should stop being so cynical. I keep telling myself "The glass is half full"...or "The car is half there". Still sad to see pics like that.

Glad they're OK. It's good that she obviously didn't lose any money on destroyed mods. The Corvette did its job amazingly well.

Looks like a head-on collision, right front, right front with corvette getting the worst of it.
Looks like airbags did their job.

Default Crash

It is amazing that the woman survived, lots of damage to the cockpit.
Why did both front airbags deploy? I thought someone had to be sitting in the passenger seat to activate that side.

Both airbags deploy unless the passenger air bag is manually shut off via the switch in the glovebox. Early C5's did not have this switch, I think it came in the 2001's and later.

Wow! This is a few blocks away from where I live. The speed limit on that road is 30mph. With that much damage she had to be at least doubling that.

30mph(south) + 30mph(north) = 60mph.

Exactly. Lot's of people just do not realize how much damage can happen at low speeds.

Before a certain year both airbags would deploy. Now there are weight sensors (Load Cells) in the passenger seat that know what you weight. Under 35 pounds the passenger airbag will not deploy, Somewhere over another weight limit they will deploy at a smaller charge. Then over another weight the airbag will go off at full power.

Not to mention most folks go a little over so figure 35 to 40 equals 70 to 80mph impact speed! Something to think about!! Hope all get out ok! If the old guy in the caddy was having heart pain or some kind of seizure he could have easily involuntarily hit the gas as he crossed over as well so who knows how fast he was going!

It was my friends wife's sister-in law driving that Vette, as of last week, still in the hospital recovering from numerous injuries.
