Default Advertising in Every Forum Section?

I understand that advertising is what makes the world spin here, but even the Technical and Scan and Tune sections are weighted down with advertising. It's just out of control. Are there no limits?

I would guess that if more of us paid for our memberships, then there could be less advertising but to look at things in perspective, there's a lot of members in here all the time. Therefore its a lot of bandwidth that's getting used, web support and the infrastructure to run all of this...its not free. Someone has to pay for it.

Agreed, it makes searching threads a lot more difficult when you have 8 threads with the same title in 8 different sections of the forum. Never seen this before on other automotive forums I've been on.

I like vendors interacting with customers and like seeing new products, group buys, sales, etc, but only when I can search for it in the for sale section.

I guess I really don't have a problem with all the advertising since the supporting vendors help keep the forum free for us to use. Does it make the search function a bit harder - sure but it sometimes doesn't work well anyway. I really can't blame the vendors for wanting to get maximum exposure for their dollars.

They pay the bills, And for what they pay they should be able to post where ever they want, It is simple, If the ads bother you don't open the thread. Some I open others I don't.

I also get tired of all the ads but thats how it is when they help pay the bills. so, you tolerate it or perhaps start your own site. its a trade off, thats all.

This is a huge forum with big bills to manage it...bandwidth and server space is expensive....I am part of a smaller motorcycle forum and we had to purchase a new server last month at a cost of $8500....just don't open those postings... we need these guys and I have found many vendors on here who have served me well and have passed on great advice.....and if they do screw up they know there are many eyes on here and one negative posting could affect their business....

There is a lot - but it helps that the Vendors really pay for their time to advertise and it keeps the Forum running!

Thanks,matt

The rules state we get 3 on the first page in the various sections. It's what we pay for to keep the forum free for everyone else.

Some things I agree don't belong. Wheel FS threads in scan and tune just doesn't make sense.

I have absolutely no problem with vendor advertising. I don't read every ad just like I don't read every new private thread. However, I do read some and every once in a while, one will catch my eye and "bingo" I become a customer.

It's called Capitalism and I am always a fan of that.

I was really amazed at the amount of advertising here. I came over from the Miata forum and there was no advertising compared to what we have here. Tire Rack Supported the wheel & tire forum and that was it. Flying Miata supported the suspension and handling forum, etc. Different business plan I guess.

I'm with you 100%. (And I'm a lifetime member -- one-time $200 payment back in 2006. Best money I ever spent!)

Threads like this usually don't end well.
If you have an issue with the way the forum is run, PM a moderator and you will get an explanation without having to call it out in open forum.

I also agree, When I first signed up I was like WTF this is the most un-organized board. People flood every section with adds. Makes it frustrating when doing a search and the same thread pops up in every section.

I understand the need to have advertisers. I also appreciate them giving us notification of new products and discounts. But they should live by the same rules as the rest of us. Yes they pay the bills, but without us they have nothing, so don't minimize our importance. It's kept free for us to attract the largest audience. it's called marketing 101.

There is a for sale section and they also have a listing on the left side of each page. A heads up on new products or discounts is one thing, but filling up general with for sale is a tad bit much. But I've learned to live with it. I bypass most of them.

But what does aggravate me is when you send them a PM with a question and they ignore it. I put them on my don't open their thread list. Have two so far.
