Service Column Lock message but still drives normal?
Alright so before I get 20 messages tell me to do a search, I already have, including this sticky http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...ky-please.html I didn't see anything pertaining to my problem but I may have missed it.
So anyways as the title states I'm getting a "Service Column Lock" message when I start the car but other than that nothing has changed.
No locking and no fuel shut off...everything is exactly the same.
Is this an indicator that my column lock is going bad and going to lock up on my in the near future?

Does this happen every time you drive? Does the column actually lock when you shut the car off?
If it happens every time, I wonder if the lock motor just isn't plugged in; I thought the fuel only shut off was part of the reprogram flashed into the computer as part of the recall.

I'm going to try to pull the fuse like Jet-Jock suggested. Hopefully this fixes my issue.

Just a thought..... When I bought my 03 Z the service column lock message displayed every time I started it and drove fine.... All I had to do was hit reset to bring up the normal DIC display. After lots of searching and help from a very nice forum member I narrowed it down to the battery. It was apparently low and got me a new red top and all is good!! Hope this helps... It's worth a check.

You need to order and install a bypass module. Around $50 Corvettes of Houston, takes about 30 minutes to install.
Here's some instructions: http://ls1howto.com/index.php?article=24
If you had any of the Recall procedures done by the dealer, that information is necessary to give the proper advise.
Also, what's the age and state of your battery? Ensure you have a battery of at least 120RC (reserve capacity), if not consider an AC-Delco 78-6YR.
If there is weak voltage on the buss, the message will appear until a) you install the bypass module, and obviously b) replace the battery.

Alright before i pull a fuse I'll try to hook the battery up to a trickle charger and see if a full battery fixes it. If it does I'll just buy a new red top.

Would this problem be related to the three codes i'm throwing?
U 1096 H IPC
U 1064 H BCM
U 1016 H PCM
I guess what I mean is could a low battery be the cause of these codes?

Pretty sure I had the same codes.... The ones I had come up were all something about loss of communication.... So if that's what they are it's most likely battery

Burning Brakes
before checking random things, pick up yourself a good volt meter. Check the battery's voltage with the negative cable unhooked. Should be 12.5v or higher. If not battery is the issue. Either it's not fully charging or just isn't holding charge, either way that has to be addressed first.
I had let my battery drain once...had to be jumped. Soon after,it started showing SERVICE COLUMN LOCK. I hooked up the volt meter, and saw 12.3v. Immediately went out and got a new one. After the battery was corrected it went away and had PULL KEY, wait 10 sec. That was being caused by the bad K Harness GM put in the car under the warranty repair performed when the previous owner had the car. I unplugged that and plugged the original harness back in.....not a single problem since.
90% of column lock issues are with voltage/battery issues. IMO that's where EVERYONE should start, and it's just surprising when so many people doubt their voltage is the issue because the battery isn't too old....or the car lives on a trickle charger, or the volts gauge in the dash tells them otherwise while the car is on.
I don't have the car on a trickle charger, and don't have a CLB. My car starts up just fine after sitting for a few weeks, and I don't have one of the popular "premium" batteries. $80 Bosch battery, as long as it meets the spec'd requirements you're good to go.

To the OP, print this bit of advice and put it in your glove box. Then, if you don't get the column lock bypass and install it as advised, you can pull it out and read it while your stuck somewhere with the column locked. (good battery or not)

Replacing battery fixed Service Column Lock
Iwas getting the "Service Column Lock" on the DIC every time I started the car. There were 8 combined codes for the right and left door module. After reading the posts, I did check my battery, and found it was a little low, and 5 years old. I replaced it with Sears gold dry cell battery, and reset the codes.
I no longer get the original message and all is great. Thanks for your answers here.....I am sure I saved a bunch not having to go to the dealer to have them troubleshoot!

Hmmnnn, In the past week, I'm getting the column lock message when I start my 02 Corvette. I hit reset and it goes away. I had the CLB installed many years ago and never had a problem til now. Battery voltage is good. Anybody have a idea why all of a sudden I get the CL message?

Gee Wiz!!!!!!!!!!
Okay, to please you, I'm going to get my camera, go upstairs, go to the garage (which is like 100 degrees), get my Fluke meter (no Harbor freight crap), take some pictures, go back inside, then downstairs to my office, load the pictures on my computer, upload pictures then on ImageShack, and finally post the pictures on the forum.
Sorry for the fuzzy picture but I'm NOT going through all those steps again.
