Default 2002 Z06 Lug Nuts

I have a 2002 Z06 with 27,000 miles and am the 2nd owner. In talking with another 2002 Z06 owner he mentioned that the factory lug nuts had one locking nut and plastic covers over the nuts. It look like someone has installed chrome nuts on my car. Just curious if this is the case?
Thanks for any responses/comments.

Yes, the stock lug nuts should have 1 locking lug nut per wheel along with plastic caps that thread over each lug nut.

Mine is an 02 also and I have chrome lug nuts and one locking lug nut. I have seen others like this and think they must be aftermarket. I thought they should be covered with the factory grey plastic covers.

While mine is not an '02 (I have a late build 2003), mine came from the dealership with the chrome lugs and one locking lug (per wheel).

Hmmm, I have what I thought was an all original 02 Z with grey wheels that does not have any caps / locks. I bought @ 15k with original tires / brakes, etc.

Maybe an option on the Chrome Wheels ?

Mine had 18k when I got it. Not sure about the number of previous owners. Looking at my pic, I may have aftermarket lug nuts. Look at the locking one.

Z's did not come from the factory with chrome wheels.

I got rid of my stock lug nuts and went with some chrome lug nuts (one locking). Never was a fan of those plastic lug nut covers.

Found this information on another website. Apparently, there was a change at some point during the 2002 production run so early 2002 Z06's had regular lug nuts with plastic covers and later units were fitted with the stainless covered lug nuts that did not use plastic covers.
To: All Chevrolet Dealers

In an effort to improve quality from lost plastic covers and enhance overall exterior appearance, a running change is being made to 2002 Corvette lug nuts. The current plastic caps will be eliminated and replaced with a new stainless steel overlay lug nut (#9595165). The locking nuts and key are eliminated and dealer installation is no longer required. If the customer so desires, a matching locking set is available thru GM SPO, part #12497482.

Please note this change stops the reimbursement for dealer installation of the locking lug nuts.

Also, an owners manual insert is added to replace page 6-52 that adds ‘(If Equipped)’ under the Using the Wheel Lock key section. Please check to make sure the insert is included on delivery.

The locking lug on yours looks like the factory locking lug that has the outer threads where the grey plastic cap would screw on and cover it. I think someone put on 4 chrome lugs and left the locker without the cap.

My 02 Z06 has the original factory lugs with NO locking lugs and the factory plastic covers. Looks that way anyways.
