Is HUD a must when buying

Nope not prescription, just high end Revo glasses that are polarized. If you have a polarized lens it will dim the HIS by probably 75% or so. So in the day, it is mostly impossible to see....unless a black van stops in front of me or something like that.

C6 of Year Finalist (appearance mods) 2019
My car didn't have it but I liked it so well that I added it.

Screen door on a submarine, IMHO. (My car has it.)

+1 the HUD is invisible with polarized glasses. It bugs me that it sits so low even when adjusted in the full-up position. I used to think it's something I would want, but decided after driving a few that it wasn't a deal-breaker not to have it.

I think liking the HUD comes down to if you wear cheap sunglasses or polarized glasses. Or that's how I see it.

Take it easy on Steve,,he probably STILL has some aching joints the the ol bod!! I'll bet he still wasn't squinting into the HUD on the Texas mile though!! As I recall somewhere around 190ish!! As for me,,on the strip I go 80% by ear and just use a quick glance at the tach just before redline and pull a shift. Side note,,the LS1 reeves a LOT quicker than my big block,,and the first pass in the FRC got carried away and hit the rev limiter in 1,2&3,,after that pass I learned!! Hope you're back to 100% Steve!!You decide to get another C5 ,or are you modding the C6 now??

2023 C5 of the Year Finalist - Unmodified
I flew back seat in fighter aircraft all my life and I always coveted the fact that the pilot had a HUD and I had to watch it on my TV displays. When the Vette was delivered with a HUD it was a happy day
It's by no means essential but I just love having the information easily visible. I find it invaluable for keeping to speed limits in towns and villages. The rev counter is another useful function for me. Can't say I use the other functions much though.
Unlike others, I seem to have been lucky on serviceability and it's more than bright enough during the day.
Its certainly a talking point and most other enthusiasts are impressed that its fitted.

Installed HUD a couple of years ago. It was a waste of time and money for me. I hardly ever use it.
I also think the dash pad looks better without the HUD bezel on it.
