Melting Slicks
I believe mine does the same, my torque management is tweeked, but i think the car overpowers the rear brakes so it feels like nothing is happening. But I know it works in other instances.

The little button doesn't appear to work well for me. On a rainy day I made a left turn over some railroad tracks that had those rubber mats over them. I accelerated going over the tracks and ended up spinning out doing a 360* Much to my surprise I felt NOTHING kick in! I would have expected the system to cut power and apply opposite corner brakes to straighten me out. NOTHING! This doesn't inspire much confidence in the system.
Some day I am going to take my car to am empty parking lot on a rainy day to see if the system is working.

How hard did you kick out the back end? My t/c will let the back end come out a little when I goose the throttle in 1st, but power shifting from 1st to 2nd it will shut things down. It can definitely be felt, so it's violent movement that triggers it
Go to an empty parking lot and mess around with it off/on to see how it behaves?
Unless you're a bad a** driver, keep it on. I rarely turn it off now a days.

I turned off my TC going into an on-ramp and rolled into WOT pretty fast in 2nd gear. I am still amazed at how fast and how many times my vette spun in such a short distance. 
It even did the oil starvation engine shutdown on me.
TC/AH definitely works!

I haven't had my Vette long and have yet to hear the tires squeal. From a pretty good roll I nailed it in first and when I hit second it felt like it pulled a little sideways and spooked me a tad. Glad we are having this conversation. I know now I should probably take my emergency underwear with me if I ever turn the traction control off.

Burning Brakes
Thought I would be cool the other day when pulling out of work. I have a SC C5 with 500RWHP. I turned the wheel to the right and punched it. Just going from 0-30 the car twisted from side to side and I thought I was going to hit the curb. I was able to straighten it out, luckily. As others have said go someplace safe like a parking lot where you have space and try it out.

I guess it depends on what maneuver you were doing at the time. I've noticed minor corrections during rain or snow skids and more extreme corrections when I accidentally do something really stupid (which, thank God, isn't often).

I know its not some magical device. But it seems like since I have owned it and ever got into a situation, It doesnt do anything. It shows in the DIC that it gets activated...but i never notice anything driving wise. Or there are times when i kick it out a bit, and it never goes on.
I have no clue how these systems work, but is it possible that it says it gets activated and nothing actually happens?
Or is it possible to tamper with the "settings" in something like a tune. such as torque managment?

I've seen a lot of videos of C5's getting sideways and crashing.
Not to make any presumptions, but it seems to me there is a high rate of accidents.
(I'm not taking into account the acts of the driver)
I'm thinking that maybe the TC can't keep up with older tires?
Uneven tire pressures?
Or the programming/computation speed is not quick enough to compensate?
Thoughts?
