Many nice 99s for sale. Or should I spend the extra cash on a 01 or 02

For example the 20001 model has an ls6 manifold which provides a little
better air flow to the engine. (and 25 more lbs-ft or torque) This is only one of the changes.
More importantly the EBCM (Electronic brake control module) on 1999-2000 models can not be repaired and GM has quit making them.
This controls your ABS braking system. Also there are thousand vet owners with 1999-2000 that have never had this problem regardless of mileage.
However, reading further down there is an electrical company in Tennesee that contends that they repair them with a 90% success rate. The cost is $495.00
Just like Sinatra sang "if I knew then what I know now" I would buy a 2001 or newer.

I can't tell you what to do. I bought a 99 FRC and it's a love hate relationship. I love how it looks, I love how it drives.
But if I had it to do over again I would have waited and went for a 03-04 Z06.
My ebcm just crapped out at 75K and you can't get them nor can they be repaired. The company in Tn says they can repair 90% of them without active handling for 495.
You can get a used one for that price that may or may not give you trouble later.
I have read and heard of many 97 to 2000 who say they've never had an issue with them. Most are low mileage cars that may or may not in the future. The only way to compare is to compare cars that have over 60K on them and see. I have seen many that have had these issues.
Your call, you may or may not have an issue with a 2000. Who knows? I don't. The extra 5 HP they put in the 01 is hardly a great upgrade.
But if you go with an 01 make sure you're getting one that does not have the oil consumption issue, they can be prone to that.

I love my 99. I bought it with 40kmi in mint condition and about 5k in bolt on mods(headers, corsa, vortex, tune, short shift) for 16k or cheaperthan a similar stock 01+ I looked at. Plus I have ls6 manifold heads and cam I have sitting on my ws6 that's going in for free soon.

If you want a slightly modded car it's not worth the money IMO for a 01-04 as youcan find nice 97-00 with some mods for much cheaper.

I have no complaints with my '99, and loved my 2000. To each their own.

Again, the 01s and newer coupes and vert MN6s had an extra 25 lbs-ft of torque over the 97-00s. That's what you feel on the street, not the 5 extra horsepower.
My late-year 01 has no oil consumption issues.

My 01 burned a quart every thousand miles of normal driving. Spirited driving, it would go through a quart every 200 miles.

A $8 quart of oil every 200 miles or so wouldn't be too bad. I would be concerned how often the previous owner drove 2 quarts or more low regularly

Since 2002 had 1999 FRC in the family, only problem has been the oil sending unit went out twice.... a bear to get at!
At 82k now and can still beat it like it owes me money with no complaints. Still get 3rd gear chirps with original clutch...

OK....Do you want a garage queen or a car that you will actually drive?
I have a 99 coupe that just passed 106,000 miles. We drive it 10K/year (give or take) and believe me it doesn't like to be locked away in the garage from March to November. It looks like new, runs great, had very few issues (none of which cost me more than $500-600...and that's not much considering it's a vette).
Like people say...you just need to take care of it, change the oil when it tells you too and it will give you many miles of fantastic driving.
Iff you buying it to be another garage queen then it doesn't really matter what you buy because you won't be driving it often enough to worry about too many maintenance issues.
Good luck
