Thanks for reviving this thread, I installed the 1st edition of the C6Z06 shifter in my car. While a vast improvement over the C5 shifter, there is still a little issue between 1st and 2nd, will try this as I love the shifter over the original.

I just did this mod to my car yesterday and WOW what a difference. Much smoother shifting.

I used an aluminum oil drain plug washer which I thought might match up better up against the transmission.

I completed the mod today, and it made a difference with my ripper, but I will try a 2nd gasket to see if 2 gaskets are better. My 1st difficulty was finding the gaskets. I visited about 6 auto parts store (including Auto Zone, Advance Auto, Pep Boys, Napa) & none had the Oil Tite gaskets 65277. After some research on the internet, I found that the Napa BK 704-1357 is the same gasket. I went to Napa & purchased 2 for $1.10 each. The other issue was finding the plug on the trans, it was located way up on the top side, not easily seen. Is there a difference with the location of the plug between the 98 & the later model vettes? Then I had an issue with breaking loose the plug, I need a breaker bar to loosen the plug on the trans. I did not have a 15/16" socket but the 24mm fits perfectly. This is a good mod because now I do not have to get rid of my ripper. Thanks.

Just did this mod today...I didn't notice much of a difference (MGW shifter), but I only drove around the block. I'll drive it more and post back.

I can get aluminum oil drain plug washers for 85¢ each. If anyone's having trouble finding these, I can send 'em out for $1 (ea) shipped.

I think it started in 2005 from Greg of AntiVenom inc in Florida (A Corvette/GM Tuner). Not sure though...

Just did the mod today. I've got the Ripper on my car and I started with one washer, test rode and noticed an improvement, then, since it's so easy to change, tried two, and actually like the feel of 2 better. But my Ripper was really notchy and fairly hard shifting. I am also going to change to Amsoil and realign my shifter. This mod was a great improvement and I wish I'd done it a long time ago. Can't believe how easy it is. Once you find the detent, it is a 10 - 15 minute job start to finish, including getting in the ramps and jacking up the rear (assuming you don't have a lift). Thanks for bringing this mod back. Zuti

Haha I thought that old thread seemed familiar. I remembered that big debate with boosted_Z06. Sure enough I have the last post in that thread.

Wait.....does that make me a thread killer?

I hope not too. It really is a great mod. I drove my 98 around for two years after doing that mod and loved how easy it made quick shifting.

However, just because you CAN powershift 2-3 doesn't mean you should.....especially if boosted....my poor 10mm torque tube didn't survive for long
