Would you ditch the C5 Vert?
I am putting down my deposit for my number one spot on my dealership's waiting list for the C7s. They are a high volume dealer and should have one of the very first productions vehicles.
Since I have two years to plan I'm debating whether or not to keep my convertible. My Z06 isn't leaving my side.
My wife is buying a new Fully loaded Elantra for her new commute and is no longer going to use her 2006 Buick Rainier.
I don't plan on commuting in the C7. I'm debating whether to keep using the vert for DD duty. I can probably keep it running forever. Or I can sell it and just have the C7 and the C5Z and commute in the Rainier.
Or I can sell the Rainier and steal the father-in-laws truck when we need to tow our boat and keep the Vert for DD.
I'm guessing a payment around $1000 but I'd like to pay it off before a five year point and a larger down from the sale of one of those vehicles would be nice. What do you think an 02 vert with 140k miles will be worth in 2 years?
The Rainier averages 20 mpg on regular and the Vert gets average 27.5 on premium. 450 miles a week.
I will say I am really excited about the C7.

I would just keep the Z and the C7. Two Vettes should be enough in one household for one driver unless you are a collector.

I don't want to be that guy 30 years from now kicking himself for not buying these cars, we are in a similar time to the late 60's and early 70s muscle car era. It is a GREAT time to be an enthusiast.

To me one of the things I appreciate is only driving the vette once in a while. It seems it makes it more special.
However I have toyed with the idea of getting another vette as a DD. hard choice, glad I don't have to make it.
I would probably lose the vert at the end of the day though.

I have a hard time parting with cars, but I am sure a C7 would make it easier, plus I would still have the Z and SHE IS SEXY!

Yeah I have thought about that too...honestly I don't know that I wouldn't buy a 97 or an 05 today. Do they have bugs sure, but people figure them out, and at the end of the day it feels nice to be driving around in something people haven't seen before.
I miss people coming up to me and talking to me about my Z06. It happened all the time, but now after this many years they don't have that same wow factor.
Plus I will be needing the car at launch for business purposes.

I would agree with keeping the Z, get the C7 and use the Rainier for a DD.

Oldtimer
Stable life of a Corvette.
Personally I'd keep both. The present C5 Corvette with the 140K miles I'm sure runs like a clock, Chevrolet built the LSX engine family to exceed the 200.000 mile mark if kept in good maintenance. But it intrigues me, Have you seen a model of what your buying in a C7 ? I find it hard to make a commitment on a vehicle I've never seen ?

The vert only has 100k now and runs perfectly. I had planned on doing a H/C install which would basically refresh most parts on the engine minus internals. That and a new clutch and I could probably see another 100k without a hiccup.
My EBCM is on the fritz but luckily I can fix it for free. Overall it has been pretty problem and worry free.
The Rainier is running the 4l60E and it is a nemesis of mine. With 110k on it now, I know I'm looking at a new one at some point in the near future. It already does some "weird" stuff.

She didn't even put up a fight this time. I said babe I'm buying a new C7.
She said OK.
hmmmmm she isn't taking me seriously...
we were sitting in a Chevy dealer when the 05 Vert came available and she said go ahead and buy it...
hmmmmm this is weird, she must really not believe I'm buying a C7 so she wants me to get a C6...
Babe I'm going to put a deposit down on a C7...
How much?
$1000...
Ok...
She must be getting older

I have an 03 Z06 with 13k miles and my DD an 02 Vert with 100k miles.
The Z will be pulled from my cold dead hands...we have been through WAY too much history together. That car has put me through hell being able to keep it through some pretty bad times.
When we were in the dealership I told the sales rep that the car would be pulled from my cold dead hands, to which the wife replied
"and then sold..."
