How many miles did you get out of your A4 before it needed to be replaced?........
Did you replace it with a stock unit or one that was modified? What shop did the work and how much did the replacement cost? Thanks in advance for your replies.

Had four, never had to have any work done on any of them.

My son had his replaced at 130,000 miles with a remanufactured GM unit by his uncle but only because he "did something stupid" while showing off to some girl riding with him. He wouldn't tell me what he did to cause it, but he paid for it so I didn't press the matter. Probably reved it up in neutral and slammed into first or into reverse or god knows what. I think he paid $2200 for the trans and $500 to his Uncle. Oh, when I called AAmco to ask about a replacement they said it would be anywere from $4000-$6000 depending what was wrong with it.

Replaced at 116,000 when I put in the S/C, the stock one couldn't handle the power. Went with a RPM V, England Green did the install. L8R ZFLASH

No issues with my 2002 at 93k.
I have also kept in touch with the new owner of my old 97, it has about 150k on it now, and still no issues.
I remember I lost 4th gear in my 97 when I had it, serviced the fluid and the darn thing started working like a charm again.

just waiting for it to puke.
2004, a4 coupe. with 18,000 miles, 1/4 mile at a time=72,000 passes. Lots of brake torq, spinnin, hard accelleration, nitrous 150 shot. Just waiting for it to PUKE !!!!!!!!
Then a Monster with a 3400 stall and 3.42 gears.
Split a half shaft on my new 2000 vert at PBIR, sticker in window, 125 miles on the new car, THUD. Came in a new vette, left in a tow truck.
Yea Jack, I thought I had low mileage.

I think you should also ask how often the tranny fluid was replaced. Many folks feel that this is a non-maintenance item and subsequently suffer the consequences.

127k on mine and still shifts perfectly! It was leaking out a little bit of fluid when I first started the car in the morning in the cold winter months, so it had me worried for a while but as soon as the weather warmed up outside it stopped leaking. And that was the last winter for me driving it daily, so I am not worried about anything unless it starts leaking in warm weather. Fingers crossed!

Get yourself a tranny cooler and bypass going into the radiator at all - no need to share heat between engine and tranny! You will be way better off!
PM me if you want to know which cooler I went with!
Thanks,Matt

92,000 here but it was heat and 701 RWHP that did mine in!

Alright....... I've got 182,000 on my 1997 A4 and it is still hanging in there. I have a low mile 2004A4 waiting on the floor of my garage cuz I got a feeling I maybe getting close. Also a 3:15 diff too, might as well do both.

I am original owner of 2001DD - currently 49,000 miles.
Torque Converter started leaking at about 30k - replaced under warranty.
Pump Seal started leaking at about 35k - repaired under warranty.
Neither caused a "failure" - just fluid on the garage floor.
I also drive the car very easy as I plan on keeping it long term and I had the fluid/filter replaced when the Torque Converter work was done.
