Opinion on lips/bodykits or lowering the car?
Looking at some side skirts/lips or... lowering the car on the stock bolts. Opinions on body kits? Some look great, but I wonder if I want to tack on extra weight/parts to the car. Are skirts/lips worth it? Opinions?

my car is lowered with the zip lowering kit which allows you to go a little lower than stock bolts and i must tell you its a pain sometimes to go into restaurants etc. i couldnt imagine putting a front splitter on with a car being lowered. putting a front lip with side skirts on a c5 that isnt lowered wont look good either. it will have that horrible 4x4 stance

Lowering your car always looks better for sure.
Only If you live in an area where you can get away with it.
You sure don't want to damage something on your car if you live in an area with bad roads...

I understand where your comming from, I've been debating over the vortex splitter and side skirts for several months. I want to pull the trigger but, just can't. I'm lowered on stock bolts hopefully, someone will post p[ics to help you and me make a decision.

lower it. In my opinion it isn't about getting the car lower to the ground, but decreasing the gap between the tire and fender. So adding body parts will make it lower to the ground giving you those issues while still retaining the ugly 4x4 wheel gap. Drop it

Lowered on stock bolts, splitter, and side skirts. No problems except driveways and some big dips in the roads, front splitter doesn't scrape at all. The prob is the air dams underneath, just buy the air dam brackets from a vendor on here. Here's some pics for you,L8R ZFLASH

You're right - some of the lips/side skirts look good on the car (see the two cars above) and from what I've seen, the C5 looks great lowered down a bit. Best advice I can give is just check your local roads and keep in mind that if the car sits lower, chances are it will take more caution on your part to ensure nothing scrapes/breaks when going over any speed bumps/steep drives/potholes.

Definately lower it - it'll make the stance SO much nicer! BUt consider skid plates too (nylon or aluminum) because you WILL scrape a speed bump someday and the sound....well it's something you don't want to hear!

Extra weight?
my flared fenders were less weight then OEM, the rear fascia is fiberglass not OEM composite so also less weight.
my splitter is tough as nails composite and I can stand on it. But but not for street use as I only have 3" of ground clearance, if that.

everyone seems to just lower the car on stock bolts...but my advice is this.... invest in either some very stiff shocks or a nice set of adjustable coilovers. I lowered my GTR and had a damn time driving it until i threw a set of nice stiff tien coils on it. Then not problems, better handling, and i could adjust it whenever i wanted.

I have a vortex splitter that I have been debating if I am going to install it or not.... I am lowered on stock bolts and just don't want to get it on there then bust it all up

Here are the skirts and Vortex splitter you are considering. My '98 is lowered to the max on stock bolts, center air dam trimmed 1", and front corner skirts removed. Ground clearance is 4-3/4" under the splitter. Not any real problems as long as you slow down for speed bumps.
This makes it tough for me not to install my splitter

The skirts are from JWMotoroing and don't sacrifice any ground clearance. Yes, the rear is an SLP spoiler. Even with the center air dam trimmed 1", it is the first thing to hit, not the splitter. A curbstone, however, may change all that. Just keep your distance. Go for it! You can always raise the car back up a little if you think you need to.

Do it! It will give you C5 that custom finished look that should of came from the factory. You will have to be careful when you park, I always back in so I don't hit the front spoiler, I take it off every other season to freshen a few scrapes up that no one would see unless you crawl under the car. Never had any problem with the side skirts at all and my car is lowered on stock bolts.
