Default Z51 Brakes

Just thought I would let you guys know... This weekend I fitted C6 Z51 brakes on my 02 Z... they DO fit under stock Z06 wheels! I had read a few threads to the contrary, but it does work. It is very tight and some people might not like it that close but it can be done.

I did notice that the cooling fins are a bit taller on our c5 calipers and the c6 ones are smaller- maybe that's why it fit (I used the c6 calipers)

Cheers

let us know if you notice much of an improvement. The only downside I see is the Z51 rotor sizes aren't common so they are more expensive than the larger C6 Z06 rotors.....

That's good info. I 've allready reported here that C6Z51 discs with C5 calipers will NOT clear the fron 17" OEM Z06 wheels. It's very close, but the fins on the back side of the caliper touches the rim.

Well I've driven a few miles with them now and on the street the difference is small. Haven't been to the track yet though.

For my purposes, I was hoping for a nice visual upgrade with a small performance upside, and that's what I got.

Also, to confirm what has been said, I physically tried the C5 calipers- they do not fit...

Was it a conversion kit or do they bolt on directly? I've been thinking about a big brake upgrade on mine but haven't decided just what I want to do.

I would love to see some photos!

I took them on trade from a friend who had upgraded several years ago... couldn't tell you exactly what I allowed- I think it was around $400.

It's not a kit per se- you only need the abutment brackets, rotors and, if you want to run stock c5z wheels, the calipers. If you had an 18" front wheel I'm sure the stock c5 calipers would fit.

Here are some dark and crappy looking pictures from inside the garage just after I had installed the C6Z51 setup. I choose to keep my stock calipers for that "OEM" C5Z06 look. The biggest differnce is in the rear where the discs are noticabely bigger, you can see the difference up front as well, but it's not as obvious. Both front and rear rims are OEM 18*10,5 Speedlines.

Here are the front and rears, before and after.

I too wanted to keep the C5 calipers for the OEM look, but they just won't fit under the 17s up front... Those 18s all around look sharp.

Here is my setup under stock 17/18 wheels:

Rear
