Default Headers with OEM mufflers?

I have read that the 2002 Z06 OEM mufflers are ok and have good flow.Thinking about LG Street headers w/hi flow cats and use the OE mufflers.

Does this make sense? If not,why not.

thanks

Alot of people keep the titanium catback. It has good flow and if your only mods are going to headers at this point then you probably dont need anything more.

I remember seeing some flow numbers a while back comparing the stock Ti cat back to other systems. I believe the aftermarket flowed better, but the amount was a wash if I recall. Aftermarket cat backs seems to be more for tone/sound than actual flow. With how much lighter the stock Ti cat back is, I imagine you'd need some really good flow to offset the added weight and prob not the case on stock motor. Just my .02, worth exactly what you paid for it

I ran this setup for a while (intill the mod bug took over) I had great results and it was kinda a sleeper through the OEM ti. I swithced to b&b bullets and didnt notice much of a difference in hp but it is way louder now!

I LOVE, LOVE did I mention I LOVE my OEM exhaust. I have LT's with the stock Ti and it was great. I did the Ti by-pass mod and now it's PERFECT!

I switched to BORLA, only because I wanted a more aggressive sound. Added HP between the Ti or the BORLAs? Nope, it really is more of a sound issue.

I love the sound of mine with LG Pros and stock TI mufflers, not too loud normal, but sounds exotic when on the run.

I agree. I'm pushing 456rwhp thru mine and no desire to change. They get plenty loud when you mash the pedal.

I run mine with LT hdrs--stock cats and NO Mufflers !! Not that annoying or loud--sounds more like a race car rather than a low rumble--You can try if without mufflers for awhile and if yoy don't like it you can always add them later--- I also have a magniflow X pipe--The X pipe quiets it down alot and gets rid of the resonance

Once you go with long tube headers, there is no real HP gain from changing mufflers.
The stock TI mufflers are lighter than most aftermarket mufflers, so unless you want to change the sound, there is no good reason to change the OEM mufflers

The stockers flow as good if not better than most aftermarket mufflers. The stockers are also lighter than almost all aftermarket ones, and the stockers are made of titanium, they'll never rust. I love the sound of mine, just north of 500rwhp/492rwtq with ARH's and high flow cats. There's no drone with the stockers at any rpm, which some aftermarket mufflers have. As others have said, most change just because os sound, not performance.

I love the sound of the Ti's with headers and I love how light they are, unless you put straight pipes on any aftermarket exhaust is going to be heavier.

Default Oem exhaust

I have American racing long tube headers and hi flow cats running the stock exhaust and it sounds great. When I had the supercharger installed I was going to change the exhaust and they told me it is lighter then most aftermarket's and the flow difference is negligible

You'll Be paying for sound for the most part

I installed the LG Street Long Tubes, no cats and stock Ti. It sounds great. You don't get the drone on highway runs, but when you get on it, she barks good.

I'm loving the Stock Ti with headers, catless X and cam. It is agressive without being obnoxious. Idle and cruising sound edgy, but not too loud. WOT emmits a perfect exotic howl.

I had Longtubes and Borla stingers on my 98 and it sounded just awesome. But after a while it got old as a daily driver. Headache inducing drone at cruising speeds. And while WOT was entoxicating.....it could also lead to a hearing impairment

On a cost VS gains basis, the Ti wins every time.

Here's a vid of my Ti's. They can handle a lot and don't sound too bad.

Exactly! Mine's plenty loud and most people assume it's aftermarket.

As someone mentioned already the HP is a wash, and most aftermarket systems are heavier (except Borla Stinger and probably the BBs).

Think about how much you'd have to pay the aftermarket for a TITANIUM exhaust system. You can always change it later if it's not the sound you want.
