Went to the track yesterday- Times!
went to raceway park in nj yesterday with my buddies gto. had a good time . My Z06 with fast 90/90, full OBX exhaust, DMH cutouts, vararam and tune ran 12.7 with nitto 555r DR. Hows that sound? i was hoping for around 12.5.

I take it this is perhaps your first time or pretty close to it. I think you did pretty good. It takes seat time - and a lot of it - to get good at launching a 6 speed vette. Your 60' probably did suck, but that's not all on you. Tires, track prep, and weather all have something to do with it.
Have others done better? Of course.
Will you do better with practice? of course.
Get back out there and try again. But most importantly, have fun.
Join us for the Corvette Challenge events. It's a great time. There are a lot of good drivers there too that will help you with any questions you may have.

If you want some more friendly advise - get out of the general section and post up in the C5 Performance section - that's where the guys that know **** about drag racing these cars hang out.

when i first got my 02 Z06 bone stock on street tires i ran a 12.7@114mph. with practice im sure you can get a lot better times. i havent gone back with my mods, im afraid to break something..lol

It's like Capthuff said -
It took me until the second trip to the track to break into the 12's at all.
12.7 is a respectable time, and you'll be able to get lower and lower as you learn to launch the car and shift.
Have fun, and work toward that 11.9 that your car is likely capable of doing.

Not bad - but keep at it and see if you can get those times down into the low to mid-12's.

hey thanks guys for the tips. i think my 60 was a 2.256? reaction time .536. ive only had about 7 launches ever, my first one was 13.3 bone stock. i think i just need to learn how to launch better, i was launching at 1500 while slipping the clutch minimal wheel spin but prob not enough gas

Your 60' is what is holding you back...as is almost always the case for newbs at the track....you did great for a beginner....work on that launch,,,a 2.0 60' will get you low 12s.......most drag races are won/lost in the first 60'....

It is all about the driver.I regularly embarass ZO6's at the track,only because they cant get them to hook up or miss gears etc.I would have to see the time slip on that stock 99 with 2.73's that runs 12.7 though.

It is like riding a bike, are ever thing else in life the more you work at it the better you should get at it.

Have fun, I spent a few weekends at our local track learning and it took me a short amount of runs to get the hang of it. I went from a 11.8 to 10.03 on my bike cause my 60' really sucked, my best 60' was a 1.8
Just have FUN!

As everyone has said, you did fine for your first time. 12 second 1/4 mile times are very good for a street car. Back in the day,,, 1964, the quickest factory stock car was the 1964 Pontiac GTO and they would run 14.0 second 1/4 mile. It is also difficult to get consistent times with a manual transmission until you have had lots of practice.
Drag racing breaks parts...
My suggestion is that you build a dedicated race car for the track, and race your street car once or twice, and then only when you have added power, to see what it will do. Otherwise, you will be spending more money than you would like on broken parts. Unfortunately I know that from experience.
With today's power and sticky tires, it is not hard to run in the 11's with a purposely built race car.
The old adage, "How fast do you want to go, is directly related to how much money you spend", is still true today.
