Anybody tow small trailer w/vette?
Hey guys,
Currently shopping for a vette, most likely C5 Z06. Does anybody here tow a small cargo trailer with their vette? I would like to be able to take enough gear for 4ish days of camping at Road Atlanta/Sebring/etc. I would like to know about what hitch to use and any special considerations to be aware of. I realize these aren't tow vehicles but I know folks do this. I am thinking something like this would work:

Any thoughts? Thanks.

Don't think that you would have any problems with that one. I used to tow a small single axle trailer with tires, gas and tools behind the Vette. It weighed + or - 1000 lbs loaded. Never had any type of problem. The aerodynamics of that one are worse being taller, but it is only gas mileage anyway. There are several hitches that hide away up under the exhaust with only the receiver showing. Don't have the info where I got mine, Google for best current info.

Hey, if a motorcycle can pull a trailer, so can a Vette
I will probably be getting a sportbike soon, and will want to trailer it o Florida when I visit there.

I use the Hidden Hitch model for the C5. I had it professionally installed at a truck/trailer store. They were taking pictures all day long of the Corvette in their shop. As long as you are under 1,000 pounds you will be fine. I have been doing it for years, going to and from the race tracks and then last year had some fun at a Toys For Tots event. The one you have in the Craig's List ad looks like a nice trailer too.
See the pictures below.

Thanks for the nice comments. Here are some various pictures of the hitch and accessories.

I pulled this boat with my c4
Plenty of power, low center of gravity, good traction at the boat ramp.
With my c5, I pull a 21 ft inboard, harley in enclose trailer or a couple jetskis depending on activities
Corvettes work great towing a trailer.

I race my two C4s. 92 has logged about 90k miles toeing. Simular set up to Zipity's 2nd and 3rd pic. And simular pay load jack wrenchs etc. Have friends w/hitch on C5s. Trailer from Harbour frt. Around $300.00 dollars. Don't buy the one w/8" wheels. 92 6sp get 26 mpg at 70 mph. L98 auto matic about 22 mpgs +.

It is very doable, but don't go crazy. A light trailer pulling a motorcycle or some extra luggage is one thing, something heavy like a boat is an altogether different thing.
You might notice that the picture where a vette is pulling a vette boat....the car is parked.

I think all the pictures with vettes hooked up to a trailer in this thread, the car is parked so not sure your point on this.
Mine was parked because I had just towed the boat 7hrs from Florida to NC to give my wife as a birthday present. We had 2 vehicles at that time, the corvette and a miata so it was my DD, my drag bracket racing car, my towtruck etc
I added a transcooler, and with the corvettes low center of gravity, powerful engine, great traction and solid chassis, it would surprise you how well it will do with a properly loaded trailer.

No, I won't be going overboard. Just looking to tow a small utility/cargo trailer with camping gear like you would take for a long weekend at the races or trackday gear.
Maybe like this: http://harrisburg.craigslist.org/rvs/2183462345.html
BTW... that Corvette ski boat is awesome!

i put a trailer hitch on myself...it cost me about $150 for the hitch new. i pull dirtbikes and jet skiis with my 98 A4 Coupe. These cars can tow!!!
im also on 20x11 rims with 295-30-20 tires and the vette has no hassle getting the skiis out of the water

I used to tow a boat and jetskis with a 3.8 v6 camaro and while it wasn't nearly as competent as a corvette, it handled the task just fine.
Towing the boat to the races wasn't so bad at 22mpg.
even the added weight of 30lb bottle of nitrous didn't hurt too much
Back 2001, I used to tow this dragster to the track with my c4 in a lightweight 4ft aluminum enclosed trailer. I would disconnect the corvette and run it in modified class and the dragster in super pro. I wish I could find pics of that old trailer, it was ratty, but towed very well.
